³H! 1.1 - ON LINE HELP FOR E!³
ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ
H! is a program allowing easy access to the most important part
of the E! documentation. To preserve your memory resources H! is not
a resident program and is not integrated in E!.
It uses the E! ability to make "blind" shells. This process is
explained in the E! documentation. This way, everything works as if
H! were resident. Once the program is terminated, all memory used
is released.
INSTALLATION
************
It's quite easy to install H!:
1. Copy H!.EXE and H!.HLP in a directory defined in your PATH
command.
2. Add the following line to your active profile:
Define 315 &@h!
Now when you hit F1, H! will be loaded.
You may naturally use another key if you always want the "quick"
built-in Help.
Using a RAM disk will enhance the loading speed but it is not
absolutely necessary. H! is a small and compact program and will load
quickly from your disk.
USING H!
********
When H! is loaded a main menu appears. Select the topic about
which you want help using the direction and the ENTER keys (or the
shortcut keys) . You will then make a second selection in a submenu
(not for LOAD and CODE topics). A text window will appear and give
you the requested information.
Hit Esc to leave the current window or the current submenu. Hit
also ESC from the main menu to leave H! and return to E!.
Hit ALT F1 to display the previous help topic. Up to 19 help
topics may be retrieved from the H! stack.
If any error occurs a small window will appear giving you some
explanations about the problem. If H!.EXE is not found nothing
happens.
You will not find in H! the full E! documentation but only the
information on the most important commands and keystrokes. For the
more advanced concepts of E!, you'll have to read the documentation
thoroughly.
If you have a mouse installed, you may use it to select an
item clicking the left mouse button. Clicking the right button is
the same as using the ESCAPE key on the keyboard.
Once in a help window, you may scroll the help text using the
right scroll bar. Clicking the "" symbol in the upper left corner
of the help window has the same effect as using the ALT F1 key.
H! uses the environment string (E!PRESENT) to check if E! is
present in memory and what interrupt vector the E! API actually uses.
So, H! will execute properly in any case.
H! uses a HANDLE value of 2803 (please see API User's guide). So
please don't use this handle for your own API programs.
We hope this utility will help you discovering the capabilities of E!.
Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
