Ok, lets go on to another common problem ... programs that simply do
not know how to handle DOS wildcards!

The key to solving this problem is the use of the DOS FOR ... IN (...) DO ...
command.

If you consult Barry Simon's article (IBATCHSM.JU0), you will find the
technique described in detail. The basic mechanism is to use the
power of FOR ... to "drive" a loop which invokes the program with each and
every name in the wildcard list, one at a time.

The next demo (DO_END1.BAT) shows how this would work with the IBM Personal
Editor II (My Favorite Editor), which "chokes" on a wildcard for its
command-line parameter.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
