Revision history:

Date version
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
03/17/91 4.0

1. Font support for the main window has been added.
2. Changed the way that the main window is drawn for smoother
operation.
3. Completely revamped the install program.
4. Changed the layout of the INI file and added some new options.

02/05/91 3.4

Streamlined for faster loading and a smaller .EXE file.

12/19/90 3.3

A Windows based installation program has been added to ease the installation
of K-Free.

K-Free now properly saves the current settings when Windows is exited.

11/26/90 3.2

This version includes a "Task" display available from the Options menu which
will cause K-Free to display the number of applications currently running
under Windows 3.0. This number includes K-Free.

Also updated is the online help to include the use of the Task feature.
K-Free has a new icon that more closely resembles other icons used within
Windows 3.0.

10/17/90 3.1

This version contains the fix to save the current position. That feature
was broken in version 3.0

10/03/90 3.0

The Stay On Top option has been enabled so that the K-Free main window will
appear on top of all other windows on the screen. This option may be turned
on and off at will by the user.

An Iconic view mode has been added for those users who prefer a smaller main
window. Iconic view will NOT display the Windows information section or the
help line that normally displayed at the top of the main window.
Iconic view only takes up as much screen space as is needed to display the
information selected by the user from the Options dialog.

Program optimization has been done to improve both display and loading speed.

09/07/90 2.2

A Color dialog box has been added so that the colors used in the main
window may be changed to suit the user.

Program optimization was performed so that K-Free re-paints the main window
faster.

08/13/90 2.1

Full keyboard support has been added for those users who must do without
a mouse.

A help screen has been added that contains a list of all the available
key commands and options available in the current version of K-Free.

The text colors have been changed to improve readability.

07/10/90 2.0

A registration dialog has been added. K-Free will show this dialog when
first started and will allow the user to enter a registration number. If the
number is valid K-Free will set the registration information within the .EXE
file and the dialog will never again appear.
Registration is REQUIRED in order to continue using K-Free.

Icon View mode has been removed.

The data window can be moved to any location on the screen.

A windows configuration display option has been added.

K-Free will save the current settings to the KFREE.INI file so that the next
time K-Free is executed the saved settings will be restored.

K-Free supports up to 10 drives. If more drives need to be monitored, you
should start another copy of K-Free and set it to display only drive space.

06/20/90 1.4

The user may now specify as many drives on the command line as windows will
allow and a copy of K-Free will be spawned for each drive. Also K-Free may
be opened to a popup window and additional information will be displayed.

06/18/90 1.3

Added the ability to specify a drive on the command line.

06/07/90 1.2

Multiple instances now allowed. K-Free 1.2 also uses slightly less memory
than version 1.1

06/06/90 1.1

Disk free status enabled. Delay was due to a casting problem in the 6.0
C compiler.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
