Apex v1.00

Hello, Apex is a hoax program. Basically it allows you to make a fake
call to various governmental computer systems. It can really bring some
great laughs if you are running it with other people in the room, and
when they look over to see what you are up to, they see you preparing
to initiate a missile launch!!!
To get started, when you enter the program, there are 3 commands you
need. EXIT takes you back to DOS, DIAL allows you to call a system, and
Settings allows you to change the baud rate. These are all available
through the function keys and they are displayed at the bottom of the
screen.
There are 4 systems you can call. The pentagon can be interesting,
just wait and see! When you call NASA, no matter what you type you will
be logged off!! HERGOS is almost always busy, if you do get through it'll
hang up on you after dumping tons of line noise on you. NORAD is the fun
part. The NORAD segment of the program is based upon a program written
in BASIC by Bob Morris. He got the basic idea from elsewhere. He noted
that the code barely resembled the original from which he worked. I must
say the same. I borrowed his output strings, but nothing else.
When calling NORAD, you will be prompted for access codes. It is
suggested that you use words like 'minuteman', 'patriot', 'subpack',
'polaris', 'cruise', and other believable things so on-lookers will truly
be fooled. Also make sure the system clock and calender are set properly
so that the thing appears realistic at the times that it displays them.
If you type 'LANGLEY' at one point (it'll say "THIS IS LANGLEY" or
something like that) it'll let you into the inner sanctum. Eventually,
if you don't get caught, you will reach the president's section for missile
control! If you type 'DESTROY' here, you will start the missile launch
sequence! But alas, no matter what you do, you will be kicked out. The
launch sequence requires a final verification code, and no matter what
you type, it's WRONG.

I am not requesting any money on this program (for a change). But I DO
still request that no one remove my name or modify the program in any way.

If you would like to send me a message of praise/criticism/whatever or
you would like to contact me about my other software, write to:

Note that this address my change within the next year or so. In that event
I shall edit this and re-distribute it, although it may not help much
(unless I call it version 2!!).
