How to Install Active Life 1.0 for OS/2
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

You should have the following Active Life 1.0 distribution files:

AL.exe - Active Life 1.0 OS/2 Presentation Manager (PM) application pgm.
INSTALL.exe - A PM program to transfer/copy Active Life distribution files.
SAMPLE.pak - Sample data file that will load automatically.
README.doc - This information file to be viewed with any text editor.

To install Active Life 1.0 from diskette drive A: while running OS/2, insert the
disk containing Active Life 1.0, and enter...

A:INSTALL

This will run the Install program, which copies the distribution files to the
directory of your choice. It will create a new directory if the one you've
specified does not yet exist.

If you experience immediate difficulty, despite having followed the procedure
described, the most common reason is that your disks were damaged in shipment.
Occasionally postal screening causes magnetic dislocation of program material.
Common symptoms are jumbled text in files or catastrophic errors when you try
to run the programs. Other means besides postal handling can occasionally
introduce program corruption. These include BBS downloading, defective media,
or file damage from hardware/software problems in relation to your hard disk.
The bottom line is: you might assume you have an exact copy of Active Life 1.0,
but if it's been damaged it will not work properly, and must be replaced.

Call us if you encounter any problems installing and using Active Life. The
telephone number for TimeStar Systems is (800) 326-4391 -or- (408) 983-4930.
Ask for "Technical Support."

Flexibility of optionally entering time/date abbreviations:

TIME OF DAY
If you don't specify "am" or "pm", it is assumed that values
between 8:00 and 7:59 are between 8:00am and 7:59pm
eg.
8 == 8:00a
12 == 12:00p
noon == 12:00p
7 == 7:00p
1137 == 11:37a

DURATIONS
Entering a number without a ':' is interpreted as minutes
if 5 or greater, or hours if less than 5.
eg.
20 == :20
3 == 3:00

DATES
today == today
tom == tomorrow
monday == next Monday
tues == next Tuesday
sa == next Saturday
w == next Wednesday
2/1 == 2/1/90 (the next date of the abbreviated form)

Using the Mouse with the Pop-up Calendar
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

SELECT A DATE

You can change the current window schedule by clicking on a date in the
calendar with the left mouse button. If you click on the already selected date
the current window schedule will change back to what it was previously.

RESCHEDULE A TASK

Clicking on a date in the calendar with the RIGHT mouse button will reschedule
the currently selected task to that date. This is the fastest way to reschedule
a task.

You can take it with you
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

You can have Active Life print single page reports that list your schedule for
the present day and next, plus a 3 month calendar. It will also list all
highlighted events for up to 90 days into the future. This allows you to see
openings for appointments when away from your desk. To highlight an activity,
select the Edit-Highlight pull-down menu, or press F3. Highlighted events
appear underlined on the display and printed schedules.

Automatic Data Saving and Making Backups
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

To minimize data loss from unexpected natural disasters such as power inter-
ruptions, Active Life 1.0 saves any changes you have made to your schedules
every 60 seconds. Should a power interruption occur, you would lose only the
changes (if any) you made in the last minute. This is preferable to saving
every change as you make it, which would degrade system performance.

As an added precaution Active Life maintains a backup file (TIMEDATA.BAK) which
contains your just previously saved scheduling data.

There are few things more important than your data. Especially the scheduling
data you rely on to plan your future, and track your accomplishments. Be sure
to make additional BACKUPs of your Active Life data file TIMEDATA.PAK, and
.ARC (archive) files on a REGULAR basis. These backups should be made on
reliable media, stored in a safe place.

Active Life 1.0 is part of a long-range commitment by TimeStar Systems to
provide you with the most effective tools possible for managing your time.

This is the latest release of an evolutionary product that began 7 years ago:

- Research and design prototyping 1982-1985.
- General release of "TimeStar" 1.0 for DOS in April, 1986.
- First release of "TimeStar" 2.0 for Windows in March, 1989.
- First release of "TimeStar" for OS/2 Presentation Manager, May, 1989.
- First release of Active Life for MS-DOS, Windows, and OS/2 PM, Oct. 1989.

TimeStar Systems was the first company with a PM application on the market.
The product was renamed "Active Life" with its introduction in October, 1989.

Future releases are under development for a wide variety of operating
environments. The next planned OS/2 release of Active Life is an update,
slated for November 30, 1989. Free updates will be mailed to all registered
users.

Users registered for Active Life 1.0 are licensed for MS-DOS, Windows and
OS/2 versions of Active Life 1.0. No additional license is required to
merely add or change operating environments with Active Life 1.0.

Shareware Needs Your Support
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

We all owe a debt of gratitude to those who support shareware. Developers
and registered users of shareware have brought the PC community the broad
selection of valuable software we have today. Shareware can be a fair and
equitable system for directing the development of the kind of software we
need most.

If you would like to see even more high quality, powerful programs such as
Active Life, be sure to register all programs you find worthwhile. Your
dollars fund new and on-going program development.
