COST EFFECTIVE is a bill of materials program which is of use to
manufacturers who need to track the cost of the manufactured products
due to fluctuations in the cost of raw materials ( bought parts,
etc.). It comes on two diskettes and is best run from its own sub-
directory on a hard disk.

This manual and the accompanying program COST EFFECTIVE
may be copied and shared freely, but not altered without written
permission from EFFECTIVE SOFTWARE.

Warranty:
The program COST EFFECTIVE and this manual are provided on an "AS
IS" basis without warranty of any kind, expressed or implied,
including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability
and fitness for a particular purpose. The entire risk as to quality
and performance of this program rests solely with the user. Should
any part of this program or this manual prove defective, the user
will assume the entire cost of all necessary repair, servicing, and
correction. In no event will Effective Software be liable to you for
any damages, including any lost profits, lost savings, or other
incidental or consequential damages arising out of the use or
inability to use these programs or this manual, except for
modifications and enhancements done under contract for a specific
user. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may
have other rights which may vary from state to state. Some states
do not allow the exclusion of implied or consequential damages so
parts of the above may not apply to you. By operating any of the
above programs or using any part of this manual, you acknowledge
that you have read this agreement, understand it, and agree to be
bound by its terms and conditions. You further agree that it is
the complete and exclusive statement of the agreement between us,
which supersedes any proposal or prior agreement, oral or written,
and any other communications between us.

Installation:

WARNING : Since COST EFFECTIVE runs under the P-System it does not
support "ram disks" or memory resident (TSR) programs under DOS. If
the program is run with a ram disk present, the system will hang. With
a TSR program present the results are unpredictable.

The disk contains all of the files needed to run the program and
two sample product files. It also contains documentation in the
form of a manual and a Help Facility. The Help Facility may be
accessed from any menu and from any command line by typing a "?".

To install the program on a hard disk:
1. Create a subdirectory and give it an appropriate name like "COST.EFF",

2. Copy all files, except this one and the manual, from the disk to this
subdirectory, (these are necessary for running the program),

Sample Data:
Two sample product files have been included on the disk. The
first "COOKIES.CED" is used in the tutorial in the manual. The
other "CHEMS.CED" is used to demonstrate the possibility of using
the program differently than originally intended. The raw
materials table of this product file contains the first ninety
nine chemical elements. Chemical formulas have been entered as
bills of materials, and when one of these is displayed and key F3
is pressed, the cost returned is really the molecular weight of
the chemical compound represented.
