FUTURA TDD

Trial Version 1.09
(July 23, 1990)

Written by Norman Williams, a hearing impaired programmer.

FEW WORDS FROM PROGRAMMER:

Please upload this unmodified FUTURA109.ZIP file to many BBSes, even
you don't use a TDD. There are a lot of people who want to
communicate with deaf people on the phone. Very few BBS have a
program to work with a TDD. So please do not modify this program.

FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED TO KNOW WHAT A TDD IS:

TDD is an abbreviation meaning of Telephone Device for the Deaf.
Deaf people communicate with each other using oldfashioned baudot
mode with 5 bits. Almost all (probably all) standard Hayes or
compatible modems can not work with TDDs. It is due to different
frequencies (1800 and 1400 hertz). So that is the reason we needed
a special modem for the deaf outlined in the requirements below.

REQUIREMENTS:

Krown Research Smart Modem SM85H, Ultratec InteleModem,
or PhoneTTY CM4 TDD Modem. (To be detailed later)

IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2, or 100% compatibles.

Monochrome Display Adapter, Color Graphics Adapter (CGA),
Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA), MultiColor Graphics Array
(MCGA), or Video Graphics Array (VGA).

Serial Port (COM 18).

200K Free system RAM.

DOS version 2.0 or higher.

EXECUTING AND SHORTCUTS:

Execute the program by typing TDD (and a ) at
your DOS prompt. Your best friend for learning how to use the
program is using ALT-Z in any part of the program. To press ALT-Z
key, just press and hold the ALT key and press Z key. The ALT-Z is
a help screen related to current functions. In other words, not
all help screens are the same for each function. After playing
with every command outlined in all help screens, you should be
able to master this TDD program. When modem selection is set to
"None", press CAPS Lock to simulate other user's typing. It is good
for trying out the Futura-TDD software without a modem.

DIFFERENCES OF TRIAL AND FULL VERSION:

I felt that many customers are afraid of buying bad software
which are generally unrefundable. Because of this, I decided to
give this trial version free to anyone. I hope this trial version
will give you opportunity to try out to see if it will meet your
needs. Here are the differences:

TRIAL VERSION:
3 minutes limit on each call.
Message taking feature is NOT supported.
Short cut parameters on command line not supported.

FULL VERSION:
Unlimited time on each call.
Message taking is supported. It will take TDD calls if no one
can answer.
No trial screen.
Short cut parameters on command line supported: Ex: TDD M will
go to automessage directly from DOS. TDD A will answer line
directly from dos.

INSTALLING FUTURATDD TRIAL VERSION ON HARD DISK:

To copy, type:

md c:\futura
copy a:*.* c:\futura (USE B: IF FROM B: DRIVE)

To run, type:

c:
cd \futura
tdd

INSTALLING FUTURATDD TRIAL VERSION ON FLOPPY DISK (without hard disk):

To backup on other disk, type:

diskcopy a: a: (USE B: IF FROM B: DRIVE)

To run, type:

a:
tdd

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO ORDER TDD MODEMS:

Ultratec InteleModem: Ultratec
($289) 6442 Normandy Lane
[Recommended] Madison, Wisc 53719
(608) 2730707 (Voice/TDD)

Notes: Has pulse/touchtone dialing, builtin speaker, busy signal
detector (Futura-TDD will redial busy numbers), and is
near 100% Hayes compatiable. Works best with Futura-TDD.

Krown Research Smart Modem: Krown Research, Inc.
($349) 10371 West Jefferson Blvd.
Culver City, CA 90232
(800) 8334968 (Voice/TDD)
(213) 8390181 (Voice/TDD)

Notes: Has Pulse/Touchtone dialing. Not recommended for pulse
dialing system. Phone extensions using pulse dialing
confuse the modem with ringing, but will work fine if the
extension uses touch tone. Not Hayes compatiable.

PhoneTTY CM4: PhoneTTY, Inc.
($349) 202 Lexington Ave.
Hackensack, New Jersey 07601
(201) 4897889 (Voice)
(201) 4897890 (TDD)

Notes: Fastest initializing modem. Fast pulse dialing. Interferces
some phone light system by dialing. Best TDD compatiablity.
Not Hayes compatiable.
