Coloring Book Version 2.2

You may notice that this documentation file is fairly short. The reason is
that the program really doesn't need very much documentation.
All you really need to know is that the program requires a VGA card and
monitor. The program will use a 100% Microsoft compatible mouse if it finds
one. If no mouse is detected, the program will use the keyboard and/or the
joystick.
A widely reported problem (particularly from IBM Thinkpad users) is a rapid
beeping sound that starts as soon as the first picture is loaded. This
problem is caused by somewhat incompatible joystick routines. Even if you have
no joystick, this problem will occur. To correct it, do not run the program
using the /J command-line option unless you actually have a joystick.
99% of the errors that have been reported with Coloring Book have been due to
the user's mouse not being 100% Microsoft compatible. This is usually because
the mouse driver is old. However, some newer drivers will even cause problems.
If you are having trouble using your mouse with Coloring Book, give us a call
at 1-606-266-2079 and we'll tell you how to correct the problem.
To load the program, just type PAINT and press Enter. When the program loads,
press either mouse button, either joystick button, or the Enter key to load the
first picture. When the first picture loads, you are ready to begin using
Coloring Book.
If you would like to load the program without sound, type PAINT /Q and press
Enter. If you would like to force the program not to use a mouse, type
PAINT /M and press Enter. If you would like to force the program to use a
joystick, type PAINT /J and press Enter. In the registered version, you can
type PAINT /D and get digital sound support. You can combine these options by
typing PAINT /M /D to force the program not to use a mouse or support sound.
In the registered version, PAINT /Q will disable both normal and digital sound.
To change the colors in the current picture, put the mouse pointer on the color
of your choice in the color grid at the bottom left of the screen. Then press
the left mouse button. The current painting color will appear in the box at
the bottom left corner of the screen. You can then paint any area of the
picture you want. The only exception is that you cannot paint areas of the
screen that are black.
If you want to start over and erase all the colors in the current picture,
click on the box that contains a color picture of a house with an arrow
pointing to a black and white picture of the same house.
You can undo up to 30 of your last colors by clicking on the box that contains
a picture of a pencil-eraser.
When you are finished with the current picture, you can select another picture
or exit the program. To select the next picture, click on the box with the
arrow that points to the right. To select the previous picture, click on the
box with the arrow that points to the left.
If you would like to print your picture, just click on the picture of the
printer (make sure the printer is ready first). You will then be presented
with a window containing a HP printer, an Epson printer, and a frowny face. If
you want to print in color, click in the colored area on the left side of each
picture. Clicking on the right side of the picture will print in color. If
you are ready to print, click on the picture of the printer that most closely
matches you own. If you do not want to print, click on the picture of the
frowny face and you will be returned to the program.
This version of the program comes with 10 pictures that I have taken the
liberty of pre-coloring. Do not let my lack of taste discourage you, these
pictures can have any colors you want. Remember, to instantly clear away all
of the colors, just click on the box that contains the pictures of the color
and black and white houses.
If you register the program, you will receive 25 more pictures to color and
print, digital sound support, and the registered Windows version of the
program.
It is important to remember that the program saves the current colors whenever
you select another picture or exit the program.
To exit the program, click on the box with the open door in it. You will then
be taken back to DOS.
I hope you have fun with this. The program has no real tangible use, but kids
like it, and it gives you something interesting to do.
