Galleria and Galleria/CM together provide a complete package for the display,
edit, printing and conversion of bitmapped images for systems using IBM OS/2
2.0 (or later). Both are high-performance 32-bit tools which exploit OS/2 2.0
features such as large memory space and multiple threads. As Presentation
Manager applications, they feature ease of use and interoperability with other
applications on the desktop. Comprehensive online help is also available.

Galleria is a general purpose tool for the management of bitmapped images. It
provides a window for the display of bitmaps at varying resolutions. Bitmaps
can be read from the OS/2 clipboard or from disk in numerous formats. Once
loaded, the displayed image can be edited (cropped, resized, rotated etc.) and
converted to monochrome or grayscale. The result can be transferred to other
applications via the clipboard or saved on disk in a different format. High
quality printed output can also be generated.

Galleria supports a file search function to list all bitmaps available. Also,
a multi-level undo capability is provided to reverse previous edits. Concurrent
operation of most tasks (such as display, conversion, file save and printing)
is possible due to OS/2's multi-threading capability.

Galleria supports all common bitmap file formats including BMP, PCX, TIFF and
GIF. Kodak Photo-CD and JPEG (JFIF) formats are also supported for import.
Refer to the online documentation for a complete list of supported file formats
(for import and export).

Galleria/CM (Capture Module) is an optional add-on to Galleria. This utility
can take a snapshot of the current OS/2 desktop contents and save the captured
image as a bitmap. A number of options exist to control both the portion of the
desktop captured and the destination for the bitmap. A capture is initiated by
double-clicking on the Galleria/CM icon or (optionally) pressing the Print
Screen key. Various options for the capture can be set by invoking the Options
dialog from the pop-up system menu.

Galleria/CM supports a full desktop capture, all windows for selected
applications, a selected region of the desktop or a complete window or window
client area. For desktop, application and active window captures, a delay can
be set to enable the desktop contents to be arranged prior to the capture.

Once the capture is complete, the captured image can be:

- placed in the system clipboard for subsequent use by any application
- displayed by Galleria for immediate post-processing, conversion etc.
- saved as a file on disk in numerous formats
- printed at a specified size and resolution on any attached printer

Galleria and Galleria/CM require either IBM OS/2 2.0 (at CSD level XR06055) or
IBM OS/2 2.1. Use on OS/2 2.0 prior to application of the 2.0 Service Pack or
on beta code is NOT supported.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you have the LATEST copy of Galleria and Galleria/CM? Updated versions of
this software will be uploaded (together) to both the OS2USER forum on
CompuServe (as GALLER.ZIP) and the Fernwood BBS on +1-203-483-0348
(as GALLERnn.ZIP). Licensed users can also download these files periodically
to avail themselves to enhancements, bug fixes etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New in this version:

- added alternative of using Print Screen key to trigger CM captures
- conversion of image to 'standard' 256 colors (closest or dither) added
- added import support for JPEG (JFIF) baseline files
- modified File Open and Save dialogs to prompt for directory
- discard background on import of single-image GIF files
- added Image Border option for setting colored border
- added uncompressed/compressed options on save of BMP, TGA and TIFF files
- answers to commonly asked questions about Galleria added to online docs
- added option for changing image brightness and contrast

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installation instructions:

- Delete all files (excluding .KEY files) associated with previously
installed versions of Galleria and Galleria/CM.

- Copy all files to a directory of your choice. The GALLERIA.EXE and
GALLERCM.EXE files must both reside in the same directory for Galleria/CM
captures with the "Editor" destination to function.

- If you are a licensed user, copy the GALLERIA.KEY and/or GALLERCM.KEY
file(s) to the same directory as above.

- Optionally, type "EAUTIL GALLERIA.EXE GALLERIA.EA /j" to attach the
extended attributes to the Galleria executable. These attributes contain
file association information to enable Galleria to be added to the "Open"
menu of all bitmap files. Refer to the online OS/2 Command Reference for
information on the EAUTIL utility.

- Update the LIBPATH and SET HELP statements in CONFIG.SYS with an explicit
reference to the directory containing the .DLL and .HLP files. Re-boot to
implement CONFIG.SYS changes.

- Create desktop icons with program references for both GALLERIA.EXE and
GALLERCM.EXE. DO NOT drag the icons representing the executables from the
file system (Drives window). Instead, take a copy (Ctrl+drag) of an
existing icon (eg. anything in the system Command Prompts folder), open
the settings notebook and edit the "Program" parameters with the
complete path name of each file. (The "Working directory" may differ
from that containing the executable.) The icon title can be set on the
"General" page of the settings notebook.

- For the Galleria/CM program reference icon created for GALLERCM.EXE, open
the settings notebook (right mouse button on the icon), select the
"Window" page and set the "Minimized button behaviour" to "Minimize window
to desktop". This setting is MANDATORY for correct operation.

- To use the Print Screen key as a trigger to initiate captures with
Galleria/CM, add the "-k" switch to the Optional parameters field of
the Program page in the settings notebook.

- Double click on the program reference icon to start each program.

- Type "VIEW GALLERIA.INF" or "VIEW GALLERCM.INF" to read program
documentation. For printed documentation, select Print/All sections. All
the information contained in these files is also available by invoking
online help.

De-installation instructions:

(These instructions apply ONLY if extended attributes were attached with
EAUTIL during installation.)

- Delete both program reference icons and all files. If the extended
attributes were applied, deleting GALLERIA.EXE will restore ICONEDIT as
the default on the Open menu of bitmap files. Note that there may be a
delay before such a change takes effect.

- To restore templates, open the settings notebook for the icon in the
templates folder with the "G" and press "Default" on the "General" page.
Make sure that the template status is retained.
