SUJU.EXE SUJUN1.DAT SUJUT1.DAT

INTRODUCTION -- WHAT'S SUJU
---------------------------

The game of SuJu was derived from the word game of Jumbles. In the
game of SuJu, you are shown four scrambled words. Two of the words
contain five letters each, the other two contain six letters each.
These words must be unscrambled to form four common words you'd
find in the dictionary. Each of these words contains one or more
mystery letters. As each of the words are solved, the mystery
letters will appear. Once all the words have been solved, you'll
have all the mystery letters exposed which form a mystery answer.
You must now unscramble the mystery letters to form the mystery
answer. Once that has been done, you've completed the jumble.

INSTALLING SUJU
---------------

Hard Disk Installation
----------------------

Place your SuJu disk in Drive A and from your DOS prompt, type in
"SUJUHINS" and press ENTER. This will create a directory on your
Drive C called \Games and copy the necessary files needed by SuJu
into that directory. When you're done and you see the DOS prompt, type in
"SUJU" to start playing the game.

HOW TO PLAY SUJU
----------------

SuJu has two modes of play, the Normal and Tournament playing
modes. When you first boot up SuJu, you will be in the normal
playing mode. You are allowed to switch back and forth from the
normal and tournament modes only at the beginning of each round of
play. Both the Normal and Tournament modes consist of playing three
games which make up one round. You may quit anytime but may not
move from Normal to Tournament play until each round has been
completed.

Normal Playing Mode

While playing the game in the Normal mode, you may take as long as
you wish to solve the jumbles and the mystery answer. Beside each of
the scramble words, you'll see a pointer with the current word
number you will be working on. Move this pointer to change to a
different word by using either the Up or Down arrow. As you do
this, the pointer will move to another word and at the same time
display a prompt at the lower portion of your screen where you will
be typing in your answers. If you have trouble solving any of the
words, press the Alt-H key combination to receive help. If you want
a clue for the mystery answer, you can press Alt-C. The Normal Mode
consists of a three-game series.

Tournament Playing Mode

The tournament mode is quite different. You're not given much time
to solve the four words and the mystery answer. When you start the
tournament mode, you start with the first word and proceed to the
next, only after solving each word. After all four words have been
solved, a clue for the answer is shown. You then solve the answer.
When you start the tournament mode, you must continue until the
tournament is over. The tournament consists of three different Suju
Jumbles that are different from the ones used in the normal mode.
If you take too much time entering your answers, letters will show
up to help you out until the word or answer has been solved. This
will continue until the complete jumble has been solved. You then
proceed to the next jumble until the end of the tournament. When
the tournament starts, you only have to enter your answers without
pressing the ENTER key. In the tournament mode, pressing the ENTER
key will erase your answer.

NORMAL PLAYING OPTIONS
----------------------

All the options require you to press either one key or the
combination of the Alt key and a letter. Solve one of the words or
answer by just typing in what you think the word or answer should
be, then press the ENTER key. There will be a prompt on
the lower portion of your screen awaiting your input. While in the
normal mode, you have the following options:

Up/Down Arrows - Move Word Pointer

This will allow you to move from one word to another. An arrow will
point to each word you are currently working on.

Alt C - Show Clue

When you press Alt-C, you will be shown the clue for the answer.
You can do this anytime.

Alt H - Help with Word or Answer

This is what you press if you want help with one of the words or
the SuJu Answer. Be sure your cursor is pointing to the word you
want help with. Each time this is pressed, a letter will appear at
random to help you with the word. Once all four words have been
solved, Alt-H will give you help for the SuJu answer only.

Alt K - Del Top 10 (REGISTERED VERSION ONLY)

This will allow you to erase the Top 10 score and start over.

Alt Q - Quit & Show

If you want to quit the game and see the unsolved jumble, then you
press this key.

F2 - Playing Mode

Pressing the F2 key will toggle you back and forth between the
normal playing mode and the tournament playing mode.

F5 - Next Game

Pressing this key will bring up the next game of SuJu.

F7 - High Scores (REGISTERED VERSION SAVES HIGH SCORE)

Press F7 to display the top 10 highest scores. You will see
the highest top 10 for both the normal and tournament modes.

F8 - Score Chart

Press F8 to display the score chart. This will show you how the
game of SuJu is scored.

F9 - Sound

Pressing F9 will toggle the sound OFF and ON. I wouldn't want your
boss to hear you playing SuJu during working hours.

F10 - Quit Game

Need we discuss this key...

TOURNAMENT PLAYING OPTIONS
--------------------------

The options available in the tournament mode are available to you
only prior to starting the tournament and at the end of the
tournament. While the tournament is in play, you just type in the
correct words or answer at the prompt that will be displayed at the
bottom of the screen without the need to hit the ENTER key. As
soon as you've solved one word, the pointer will move to the next
word for you. The clue for the mystery answer will be given to you
without point deductions.

ENTER - Start Tournament Play

The following options are available in the Tournament Mode prior to
starting tournament play:

Alt S - Playing Speed

Pressing Alt-S will toggle you through four speed modes. The four
modes are: NOVICE, INTERMEDIATE, EXPERT and MASTER. When high
scores are saved to disk, your score will show which speed mode you
achieved your score in. The first letter of the mode will be shown,
such as 5690 N, 9865 M, etc.

F2 - Return to Normal Playing Mode

F7, F8, F9 & F10 - Same functions as the Normal Mode.

NOTE: You are encouraged NOT to cheat! Enough said about that.

SCORING CHART (Normal Mode)
---------------------------

The scoring is the same for both the normal and tournament playing
modes with one exception noted below. Listed are the options
available along with the point values received or deducted from
your score.

Solve Answer

550 points awarded for getting the SuJu answer correct. -275 points
for an incorrect SuJu answer guess. 140 points awarded for
correctly guessing a word. -70 points for an incorrect word guess.

Alt C - Show Clue

-175 points when you want a clue for the SuJu answer. This only applies to
the normal playing mode. In the tournament mode, you are given the
clue without a penalty.

Alt H - Help with Word

-40 points each time you want help with a word. In the tournament mode,
this occurs quite often without your having a choice. -70 points each time
you want help with the SuJu answer. In the tournament mode, this
also occurs quite often.

Alt Q - Quit & Show

-550 points when you quit without having the answer completed. -140 points for
each word not yet answered.

F5 - Next Game

-275 points when the answer has not yet been solved. -70 points for each word
not yet answered.

F10 - Quit Game

-275 points when the answer has not yet been solved. -70 points for each word
not yet answered.

Your final score in the Normal Mode is a three game average. In the
event you quit playing before completing all three games, your
score will suffer.

SCORING CHART (Tournament Mode)
-------------------------------

550 points awarded for getting the SuJu answer correct. 140 Points
awarded for correctly guessing a word. -20 points each time help is given
for a word. -35 points each time help is given for the answer.

An addition, one point is subtracted for each second it takes you
to solve the words and answer. In the Tournament Mode, your score
is not averaged out. All the scores in the Tournament mode are
multiplied by the level of difficulty. Novice=x1, Intermediate=x2,
Expert=x3 and Master=x4.

SUJU DATA FILES
---------------

SuJu comes with two data files, one for the Normal Mode and the
other for the Tournament Mode. Both of these data files contain the
words and answers used by SuJu. The Shareware version contains 20
SuJu puzzles for the Normal Mode, and 20 for the Tournament Mode.
The Registered versions of SuJu come with 100 puzzles for each mode
of play.

CLUES & TIPS FOR TOURNAMENT PLAYERS
-----------------------------------

While typing in your correct answer for any of the four words or the
SuJu Answer, you may hear a beep. Don't get alarmed! This is just a
little warning letting you know you've just been given a bit of
help for the word you're working on. This beep will only occur if
you've started to type in an answer and the help comes up before
you have a chance to finish typing in your answer. SuJu is letting
you know your typing is being erased and you must start over with
that answer.

At times, you may have part of your SuJu Answer solved for you. This
would normally be a word or two. If you see this in one of your
SuJu answers, DO NOT type those words in as part of your answer.
You will be wrong if you do. SuJu is looking for the missing
letters, not letters or characters that may be given to you as
help. An exception to this can be a hyphenated word or a word that
contains an apostrophe. If this occurs, you can either enter the
special character or not. SuJu doesn't care.

Examples of SuJu answers (Assume the correct answer to be GOOD
GAME):

Answer Your correct response would be

.... .... GOOD GAME
A .... .... GOOD GAME
ANOTHER ....-.... GOOD GAME or GOOD-GAME
WHAT'S A ".... ...." GOOD GAME or "GOOD GAME"

The best and fastest way to enter the SuJu answer is to type in the
letters that belong where the missing letters are. In the SuJu Answer,
the missing letters are displayed as "Dots or Periods".
