BACK SOON!
Version 1.5
Welcome to BACK SOON! Version 1.5, the message-taking utility for
the busy home or office. Here is the latest news and other important
information regarding the program.
USING BACK SOON! WITH OTHER PROGRAMS
If you use WordPerfect 5.1, Quattro Pro 3.0 or 4.0, or WordStar 7.0,
macros are provided on the program disk for automatically running Back
Soon! from within these programs.
Back Soon! is simple to use from within almost any program, with
or without a predefined macro. Simply choose your applications "Shell
to DOS" command (this may be called something like "Run a DOS command"
or "Go to DOS") and specify Back Soon! as the command to be executed.
If your application sends you to the DOS command line, start Back Soon!
as you normally would, then type EXIT at the command line when you have
finished using Back Soon! You'll be returned directly to your application.
Notes for Back Soon! Version 1.5:
Version 1.5 adds two major enhancements -
- Music. In addition to scrolling a message, Back Soon! v1.5 now
has the ability to play simple musical selections. To activate
the music feature, add the switch "/u" to the command line at
startup. The music files (extension .CM1) included on the
archive should be located in the Back Soon! directory. When
the music feature is activated, Back Soon! will alternate scrolling
your message down the screen and playing, at random, one of the
musical selections included, until a key is pressed.
- User Menu. After entering your message retrieval code, you now
have numerous options instead of simply reading your messages and
exiting the program. You can simply check your messages and leave
Back Soon! running, temporarily go to DOS, change the scrolling
screen message, or toggle music on and off as well.
Version 1.1 adds two minor features -
- the scrolling message now is displayed within a box, instead
of a bunch of ragged lines
- the message nows scrolls faster if you're using an MDA or
Hercules video mode (monochrome monitors are usually more
susceptible to phosphor burn-in)
On-line registration via CompuServe
You can now register Back Soon! on-line via CompuServe. The registration
fee of $20 will be added to your CompuServe bill. To register, type GO
SWREG at any prompt. Register the program under ID# 229.
IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE RUNNING BACK SOON! AND ARE USING DOS 5.00:
The MIRROR program, when loaded as a TSR, conflicts with Back Soon!
Most often this manifests itself as a loud continuous tone when trying
to enter a message, after which the Back Soon! locks up.
A solution to this problem is to unload MIRROR just prior to starting
Back Soon! Use the command
MIRROR /U
You must make sure that MIRROR is the last TSR to be loaded, and be sure
to re-load MIRROR after exiting Back Soon!
saving utility. Displays scrolling message
