INTRODUCTION

ENCRYPT and DECRYPT are file encryption and decryption utilities,
designed for situations where you need to prevent a file's contents
from being discovered, or a program from being executed. Both programs
incorporate DES routines and MAY NOT be exported.


RUNNING THE UTILITIES

Both programs are command line driven. The command line format is
as follows, and there must be EXACTLY three user defined entries on the
command line to start the either program.

encrypt

decrypt

is replaced by the word you wish to use for the
encryption/decryption key. DO NOT forget the
password or the file will remain encrypted for a
very long time!

is replaced by the name of the file you wish to
encrypt. This file IS NEVER changed and is
opened for read-only use.

is replaced by the name of the file you wish to
produce in encrypted form. if the file exists it
will be OVERWRITTEN!

You SHOULD NOT attempt to read a file and produce an output file of
the same name. DO NOT use the same name for the source and destination
files!


PASSWORD SELECTION

The LONGER the password used for encryption, the MORE DIFFICULT it
will be for anyone to decrypt the files using brute force decryption
methods. I suggest a MINIMUM password length of ten (10) characters.
I have included a sample batch file with several large, randomly
generated passwords for use with these programs.

REPORTING A SOFTWARE PROBLEM

In the event that discover a problem, the author would like to hear
about it. After you have checked the documentation to be sure you are
not doing something wrong, please fill out and return the enclosed
Problem Report Form, by U.S. mail.

Please fill out the form as completely as possible so the author
can understand what the problem is. If possible include screen dumps of
the problem you have found. If you have any unusual hardware installed
please be sure to include this information as well.


SOFTWARE WARRANTY

This software has been tested and found to be error free. The
author has taken all reasonable steps to be certain that this software
will perform as indicated.

However it is impossible for any author to test their software on
every computer in existence today and the he author and his dealers and
distributors cannot be held responsible for any damage that might occur
from the use of this software.

For a period of ninety (90) days from the date of purchase from the
author, the author will attempt to fix any problems you might discover.
If this is not possible the author will refund your registration fee.

SHAREWARE REGISTRATION FORM

There are three registrations currently available for this
software. The first is a PERSONAL registration, which licenses the use
of the program on one computer at a time, by one person at a time.

The second registration is a COMMERCIAL registration, which
licenses the use of program on up to five computers, as long as they
are all at ONE PHYSICAL location.

The third registration is a SECURE registration, which licenses the
use of program on up to ten computers. You will receive a disk which
will allow you to make up to ten (10) copies of the software. These
copies WILL only be able to process files created by the programs on
the disk you receive. This feature allows you added security and peace
of mind.

All registrations include free updates for one year (normally an
update is issued every three months) and technical support via
telephone and through EMAIL if you have access to one of the major
networks. You will receive the latest version of the software when you
purchase a registration and a minimum of one update six months later.
Updates after the first year can be purchased for thirty (30) percent
of the registration fee then in effect.

If you purchase a registration and you are not satisfied with the
software within thirty (30) days from the date you receive it, you may
contact the author and arrange to return the software for a full
refund.

All software purchased under one of the registrations described
above will display registration information consisting of the owner's
name and serial number.
