Novas 4000 VGA verses the "New" Logix VGA1000
by
Ron Alcorn

Sorry for this last minute update, but I felt it necessary to
actually show you how fast this Novas card is. Below is a
speed chart comparison. I found an advertisement for the
Logix VGA1000 in my March Computer Shopper that showed some
speed benchmarks using PC Labs Benchmark. That ad did not
say what version of PC Labs video speed benchmarks, but I
tried all my versions, and I found out it wasn't the 5.x
series. The wording was exactly the same as the 4.1 version,
so that's the version of the program I used for comparison.

PC LABS VIDEO SPEED BENCHMARKS VERSION 4.1 LOGIX NOVAS

Teletype to refresh whole screen .55 .60
Teletype with scrolling 1.70 1.37
Blitz screen with REP STOSW 2.74 1.86

Well you might be saying, hey, the Logix won in one category.
Before you get a bit hasty, let me tell you that I am only
using a 16 Mhz 286 (two eighty six) and Logix is using a 25
Mhz 386 (three eighty six)! If I were using a 25 Mhz 386,
I'm almost sure I would absolutely destroy their results.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
