CONVERSION OF OLD RSX FILES (2/25/90)

Starting with Version 2.4-f, the RSX database structure was extended to include
four new fields: language, type, no-of-refs, code_2. 'Type' allows note of
'book', 'article', etc. The number of references cited in a record can be a
guide to further search. A user code, 'code_2', like 'code_1' was added and
extended to allow entries such as ISBN, ISSN, or Dewey numbers (or whatever).

The old database structure (and your old files) will still work in the new
version, but will not allow use of the new fields. A message will warn you of
an old file when a database is opened to be used.

Changing the old file structure is quite easy; there are two ways. It can be
done within RSX utilities (screen 2.3) by CREATE a new database, then APPEND an
old file to it (watch names). OR, on request, the author will supply
(no-charge) to registered users a separate program which will test files,
restructure them, and save original as a backup.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
