An unusual and not well-known wine. 3343207/05/85\ 33444433333520 This is a favorite Italian digestivo. With a hint of vanilla, apricot, and even chocolate, it is superb after an enthusiastic repast. 2322107/05/85\ 23444444334410 This award winner is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscatel. It has a beautiful fruity bouquet, good balance, and smooth, round fullness that make it an excellent aperitif. 2332207/05/85\ 55655254455520 Chateau Coutet was only separated from its famous neighbor, Ch. dYquem, in 1922. The hand-picked grapes result in a rich wine that can be drunk throughout the meal. 4444207/17/85\ 55665465455530 This 'Selection de Grains Nobles' is a thick, rich, wonderful wine that is somewhere between a great white Bordeaux and a rich Sauternes, at a greatly reduced price. 4454207/17/85\ 34644444454415 This Riesling came out on top due to its wonderful fragrance and excellent balance. It has great depth and goes well with a variety of fish and white meat dishes. 2333207/17/85\ 55766165465560 This rare Alsatian is much like a rich Trockenbeerenauslese, witha honey texture and taste and a nose of a bouquet of wild flowersand almonds. Let it mature. 4554207/17/85\ 34554254454520 This Gewurz is much like a beerenauslese. It is very aromatic, giving hints of the wild flowers of the Alsatian countryside. Itsfull fruit will continue to evolve into the next century. 2333207/17/85\ 34654555454445 This is a top quality Tokay that has much in common with the bestBurgundy has to offer. The feel is rich and creamy and the food should be the same. 3333207/17/852 25655555565350 This Pauillac has been judged to have excellent potential. Look for it to evolve into a smoother, more subtle wine during the next decade. 4444107/17/852 15665555465360 Deep color, high tanin and alcohol level with good fruit and acidity. More austere, less opulent but more classic than in 1982. 4555107/17/852 25544554453320 Along with Mouton Rothschild, this has ranked consistently as oneof the best of the 1983 Medocs. It is lighter than the Roth- schild but still exhibits great breadth and depth. 3344107/17/851 33544544444415 Pichon Baron in 1983 seems to be a bit lighter than its neigh- bors, but it posesses many subtleties that make it a favorite among the judges. 3333107/17/852:3025554556553260 This is one of the rougher Pauillacs we have tasted, so you wouldwant to lay it down a bit longer than you do the others. The very pleasant nose promises a great future for this one. 3433107/17/852 24655555455445 The judges like this one for its sparkling appearance and complexnose. It is as if all of the blossoms surrounding the vineyard somehow were able to penetrate the skins of the grapes. 4433107/17/852 15665555565360 A continuing winner in the Medoc, the 1983 vintage is no excep- tion. From all aspects it is hard to find a more perfect wine, one that will continue to please for years to come. 4555107/17/852 25554554455330 Haut-Brion is classified as a first growth along with the three great wines of the Medoc. This excellent vintage has made it allthe better. It is a joy to behold. 3444107/17/851 34543544344420 Much lighter than the Haut-Brion, but at one-third the price it is an excellent buy. Match it with slightly lighter meat dishes and you will enjoy all of its pleasantries. 3333107/17/851:3024544555454425 This wine has always been one of the top ranking Graves. The 1983 vintage brings to it a bright appearance and perfumed nose that we have not seen for several years. 3433107/17/852 24654554455445 With a full, deep bouquet that continues throughout the meal, this Saint Emilion is one of the best of this great vintage. Itsbalance is perfection itself. 4544107/17/851 33443543444520 For its price range, the Ausone is an excellent buy. It is on the light side with no exceptional qualities, yet it leaves you feeling satisfied in your investment. 2222107/17/851 34543544464425 This Saint Emilion excels in its taste, while being just average as far as appearance and bouquet. Do not be afraid to serve it with strongly seasoned meats. 2243107/17/851:3025542554444410 This Saint Emilion has color more like a rich Burgundy. Even today it is mild enough to drink with flavorful meats. \ 4233107/17/851 34533533243420 While it has received high marks, at our tasting this Saint Emilion fell a bit short of the mark. It starts off with a lovely appearance but doesn't carry through. 3222107/17/851:302454453224255 The appearance and nose indicated a promising wine, but somewherealong the way the wine did not develop enough body and taste. There is little acid to carry it along. 3322107/17/85\ 44554154455425 Less expensive than many Sauternes, but still with a high level of sugar and acidity and hints of peach and wild flowers in the nose. Fun to drink alone or with grapes and fresh figs. 3333207/17/85\ 55665155565440 Loads of acid and sugar in this Sauternes. The deep golden coloris a joy to behold. This wine requires and deserves a carefully crafted and rich dessert with a fresh fruit base. 4555207/17/85\ 4354323334345 A little lighter in acid than it should be so you may prefer to sip this one alone after a light meal or outdoors with some greengrapes and fresh apples. 2232207/17/85\ 55554154455530 For the price, this is an excellent purchase. The color is amongthe nicest we have seen for this vintage. It is a rich, succulent wine with excellent balance. 4333207/17/85\ 44444144344530 This wine has enough acid to carry it along, but be careful and don't let it get as old as some of the others of this vintage. The fruity bouquet makes it a good complement for fruit desserts.2322207/17/85\ 44544144454520 A rich, honey-flavored wine that has good balance and fullness on the palate. Its bright appearance is a joy, and it should be drunk with desserts with a fresh fruit base. 4433207/21/85\ 33654544455530 A treat for those special occasions, this vintage produced a wine with a mousse that is full and rich. The tiny bubbles explode in a nose of summer flowers. 3333207/21/85\ 24755544443410 This Bonnet is a pleasure to behold in the glass. While its color is pale, it has a marvelous sparkle. The nose, too, is full of blossoms. Unfortunately, the taste is a bit light. 4423207/21/85\ 22443555454530 Just the opposite of the Bonnet, we were displeased with the appearance and nose, but the feel on the palate is full-bodied with plenty of acid and a lingering aftertaste. 1242207/21/85\ 33543533344510 Much lighter and with less gas than we would have liked, but the price is appropriate and it looks great in a fluted glass. \ 3222207/21/85\ 2244352323355 Upon tasting this Champagne, we wondered why an honor had been bestowed upon it. While possessing some charm at a relatively low price, we were a bit disappointed from all angles. 2222207/21/85\ 34544554454430 All around, we found this to be an excellent Champagne at a very fair price. While not a great wine, it scores well in all areas. 3333207/21/85\ 34554554455520 This bright and buttery Chablis exhibits the perfume and richnessof the best that the Chardonnay grape is capable. The nose is rich and deep and the wine has an excellent all-around balance. 3343207/21/85\ 33544554454515 This is a moderately good Chablis. It glows in the glass and haslong, thick legs. The nose is a pleasant assortment of wild berries and the taste is full and fresh. 3232207/21/85\ 6344353323355 Perhaps it was good when judged, but this Chablis did not have enough acid and depth to help it age. Keep away. \ 1211207/21/852 25555565555260 From this magnificent vintage comes one of the top selections. It is so full of tanin that you will not want to touch it until 1990 when you will be able to appreciate its depth. 3333107/21/852 36544555455345 Another example of a full, tanic Hermitage from this marvelous vintage. As it matures, the tanin will give way to the berry nose that you can just now begin to sense. 4233107/21/852 35555644454440 Good to look at with less of the heaviness of the others of this vintage. Buy a few bottles to drink before 1990. By 1988 the rich bouquet will be very apparent. 3333107/21/851 34544544444315 This rich and tanic wine falls somewhere between a classic Hermitage and a Cote du Rhone. We drank it with rabbit and were pleased by its fullness in the mouth and strong nose. 3333107/21/851 33543533444410 This one turned out to be lighter than we anticipated and a bit faded from when it was judged, but it has kept and will continue to keep its balance. Can be drunk with fowl. 3222107/21/852 25554556554360 Another powerful wine from the Rhone valley, this one with in- tense color and depth of fruit. It has enough tanin to keep it going until the turn of the century. Red meats only, please. 3433107/21/852 3454353433345 Lighter and milder than we had wished. It just didn't make it with the roast we had chosen. With white meat it would have carried itself through the meal. 2222107/21/852 34544544455430 Remarkably well balanced with a depth of fruit and spicy flavors that is exceptional for the price. The tannin will soften over the years to permit the enjoyment of veal and fowl. 2333107/21/852:3025655666564290 This rich and complex wine has a long way to go before you would want to uncork it. But when the tanin mellows, the rich aromas and flavors will make it worth the wait. 4333107/21/852 24544554444430 A rich, strong and flavorful wine with a well-rounded bouquet of raspberries and strawberries. This one is dark with just the right amount of tanin. 3322107/21/851 34443544344420 This wine has aged well. The judges were correct in saying that once the harshness of the tanin had passed, a pleasant, balanced wine would emerge. A bit on the light side, though. 2222107/21/851 33544644344415 This Barolo has aged well and is in perfect harmony for immediateenjoyment. You will find that it still possesses a sparkle in the glass that of a much younger wine. 3222107/21/852 25544554454330 Still with a good bit of tanin, this wine is beginning to show its potential particularly in the richness of the nose. It has good balance and will continue to improve. 3322107/21/851 34444544444320 This was an excellent year for Riojas. For the price, the wines exhibit good fruit and balance. Always a bit harsh, so drink with red meats and strong cheeses. 2222107/21/851 33554533333410 This Rioja is a bit lighter than we anticipated which makes it a good buy for those chicken grills and other light meat meals. The nose is full and fruity. 2322107/21/852 15554655455360 This 1984 Gold Medal Winner at the Orange County Fair is big and robust, even for a Zin. In the glass it is nearly black. The typical Zin nose will knock you over. 4433107/21/85\ 34554554455520 This wine is every bit as good as most white Burgundies. We drank it with blackened redfish, and the acid and body were sufficient to keep our mouths cool and fresh. 2343207/21/85\ 55555455455560 This gewurz won the French Medaille d'Argent in 1984. It is a rich, full bodied wine with loads of ripe fruit and a fully scented nose. The spicier the food, the better. 3433207/21/85\ 34544444454510 This Riesling has been highly ranked for its complex, flowery bouquet that hints of mint and pineapple. It has sufficient acidto keep if going until 1990. 2222204/18/86:15 34542444344510 Winner of the Macon Medaille d'Or 1983, Concours des Grands Vins de France. This pinot noir has a fresh, wild cherry flavor. It's light, but with good acid. 2122110/06/85\ 33654443454515 It is clearly evident why this wine was awarded the Medaille d' Argent in the 184 Concours National des Grands Vins de France. It is a Gewurztraminer at its perfumed best. 2333204/18/86\ 21542544344410 First Prize Saint Vincent Cup at the Macon Perraton Fair, Jan.84.It is complex and bright and fills the mouth with flavor. It hasplenty of acid to complement spicy dishes and is a great buy. 2132204/18/862 25355555455320 This wine is the winner of the Adelaide Silver Medal - 1981. It is rich and thick with loads of tannin and an oaky flavor. The only real negative is its dull appearance. 0342110/04/85\ 21453544444420 Pinot Blancs are among the finest of the Alsatians, and this one won the Colmar Medaille d'Or. It is nothing to look at, but is delightfully refreshing with good fruit, perfume and acid. 1222204/18/86:15 33544444344410 Winner of the Bordeaux Hors Concours, Membre du Jury. Light for a Rioja, but with a full bouquet, nice looking in the glass, goodlegs, sufficient tannin and a pleasant aftertaste. 2222104/18/86\ 5354242313255 This winner of the Medaille d'Argent in the Concours General Ag- ricole de Paris has little to offer except for its rich golden appearance. There is not enough acid to carry it through a meal.3111204/18/86\ 22543534444410 Recipient of the Gold Medal at the Orange County Fair in Calif., this is a real winner: light, tangy, a bit spritzy. A real fun wine to sip alone or with a light meal or picnic. 22323

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
