EDI Install v1.2
================

This version changes the way the compression mechanism works.
When you compress a file, the name is changed by adding a "$"
(dollar sign) to the extension. The real name is stored in
the file. When you install it or use UNPACK, the real name
is extracted and used for the creation of the new file.
You must specify the name of the compressed file (with the $)
in the [FILES] section, not the original name.

We have also improved the Program Manager Group section to
allow the specification of alternate icon files and icon
index positions. This is specially important for users of
products that require a "run-time" program to run their
applications. As well, you will notice that we now allow
the user of changing the name of the PM group to something
else.* This can be used to add the new items to an existing
group, simply by typing in the name of an old group.

Although we are working on version 2.0, we have had to put
it aside for a while. We expect it to be completed some
time in early March. As well, you can look forward to a DOS
version coming out within the next few weeks.

*If you do not like this feature, you may edit the dialog
box with a resource editor and remove the edit control.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
