Background

Dr. Vladimir Rovinski is considered to have one of the greatest minds in
the Galaxy. He holds degrees in Quantum Phsyics, Psychology,
Galaxy Navigation, and Phase Technology. The insight of the doctor
and his predecessors have kept us peaceful for the past 300 udates,
until now. Dr. Rovinski promoted the concept that war should be
fought with a minimal amount of living beings and that history dictates
that technology can win wars. It is he and his vision that allow
you to be commander of the X10A fully automated starship, requiring only a
base commander to tell it what to do. The X10A was made a reality on Udate
030520.078, and takes the place of up to 100 fighter ships requiring up to
10,000 front line and support personnel. All of the X10A's functions are
linked via high speed communications channels to the Commander (you). The
commander is in charge of all aspects of the ship, though some processes
can be placed in automatic mode. Those processes include energy transfer,
and destroyed systems rebuild. Experienced commanders generally choose to
control all processes manually.

The X10A does not project a three dimensional view of the Galaxy. War
Experimentation Division proved that a two dimensional view is more
objective. A commander is less attached to the ships to be destroyed,
allowing for faster response, and more accurate firing. The two
dimensional quadrant map carries the same objectivity. Assimilation
time is cut by 35%. Because there are no life forms aboard, the
X10A functional abilities are geared toward speed and accuracy.

The Status Console

The status console is your control center for your ship.

Weapons Level

Bars graphically indicate the energy level currently set for each
weapons system.

TL Torpedo energy level (defaults to 2/3 full power)
PH Phaser energy level (defaults to 2/3 power)
PL Pod energy level (defaults to 2/3 power)

Stores

Numbers indicate how many or how much of the listed items are
remaining in storage aboard the ship at the present time.

T Torpedoes
D Decloaking pods
R Raw materials

Keys 0 - 9 Status Keys

Keys 0 through 9 graphically display the status of the
following systems:

2 Char System
System Key Descr.
-------------- ------ ------
Shield generator 1 SG
Primary generator 2 PG
Navigation 3 NV
Hyperdrive 4 HY
Phasers 5 PH

Red means system is destroyed
Blue means system being rebuilt
Cyan means system being installed

Press F11 to change the 0 - 9 key names to abbreviations
for the system names.

Shields and Primary Capacitor Status

The box directly above the systems status indicators displays the
shields and primary capacitor energy levels.

P The primary capacitor is the top display.
S The shield capacitor level is the lower display.

Green indicates the energy stores in the capacitor are in the high
1/3 level
Yellow indicates the energy stores in the capacitor are in the
middle 1/3 level
Red indicates the energy stores in the capacitor are in the low
1/3 level

Weapons Energy Allocation

All weapons default to 2/3 full power. To increase or decrease energy
directed to weapons systems, use the following chart:

To... Press...
----------------------------- --------
Change torpedo output level Q
Change phaser output level A
Change pod output level Z

Capacitor and Energy Direction

The top bar shows energy flow to the primary capacitor. The bottom
bar shows energy flow to the shield capacitor.

White indicates the source of the energy is the primary generator.
Blue indicates the source of the energy is the shield generator.

For example, if both blue and white are on the top bar, then both
shield and primary generator energy is directed toward the primary
capacitor.

To redirect energy, use the following chart:

To... Press...
--------------------------------- -----------------
Redirect primary capacitor's
generator to the shield capacitor = (equal key)
Redirect primary capacitor's
generator back to itself from
the shield capacitor - (minus key)
Redirect shield capacitor's
generator to primary capacitor ] (right bracket)
Redirect shield capacitor
generator back to itself from
the primary capacitor [ (left bracket)

Automatic vs. Manual Energy Direction

Left on automatic (vs. manual) direction, the ship's computer tries
to keep shield and primary capacitors energy equal so neither
goes too low. If the capacitors are unequal it automatically redirects
energy from one capacitor and gives it to the other. The indicator
shows how your energy flows by color.

purple automatic: energy is transferred to the energy system
which is low
blue all capacitor energy is directed toward the shields
white all capacitor energy is directed toward the primary
capacitor
black manual control

Press the Backspace key to change from one type of energy transfer to
the next.

Information Display

The Information Display area scrolls text of important information
such as:

What was collected by the tractor beam in a resource cylinder
The number of raw materials collected
Press M to display the number of Motherships detected in your
sector
Press Tab to display your system status

Enemies

The far right of the status control panel shows how many invading
detectable ships are in the current quadrant (including cloaked
ships). This is color consistent with the Sector Map where red
indicates the number of Luchuks in the quadrant.

When the required percentage of enemy is destroyed for your mission,
the background color behind the number of enemy ships will turn blue.

Communications Link

If your communications link is damaged or destroyed, an alarm
will sound and a red bar will appear across the bottom line of
the status console.
