LAYOUT APPLICATIONS SAMPLER

The Layout Applications Sampler contains five different applications
that were built with Layout. They are:

1. Idea List* A Personal Information Manager (PIM)

2. ProfitFinder A financial services industry accounting and
decision support system.

3. Calendar A calendar, scheduler, and notebook personal
utility program.

4. DualChess A specialized telecommunications program
that allows chess to be played
graphically between players using modems.

5. Video Poker* A video poker game.

* denotes additional information is found in the program's
directory.


IDEA LIST
IdeaList is a shareware Personal Information Manager. It is
essentially an electronic version of all those scraps of paper,
envelopes and "great ideas" that we typically jot down notes on
and then lose.

All of the IdeaList files were copied to the \LAYAPPS\IDEALIST
directory. To start the program, go to this directory, type "RUN"
and press the ENTER key. This application requires an EGA or
VGA graphics card. Complete instructions for using IdeaList are
in \LAYAPPS\IDEALIST as well.

As this program is shareware, we suggest that, if you use this
program, you contact the authors via the information found in the
README files in \LAYAPPS\IDEALIST.


PROFITFINDER
ProfitFinder is a financial analysis, decision support, and
cost-accounting product for banks. It takes a bank's general ledger
and other accounting information, creates a hypertext structure that
bank managers can navigate on-screen, builds cost-accounting reports
for every product and customer segment that a bank offers, and
provides a wide range of What-If? functions (for alternate scenarios
such as restructuring or acquisitions) and graphical reporting tools.

In addition to major banks, ProfitFinder is also used by a number
of financial services companies.

This disk contains a demo version of ProfitFinder that has a
sample bank, and many of the options of the full ProfitFinder
product.

All of the ProfitFinder files were copied to the \LAYAPPS\PF
directory. To start the program, go to this directory, type "PF"
and press the ENTER key. This application requires an EGA,
Hercules, AT&T 6300, or VGA graphics card.

CALENDAR
The Calendar is a visually attractive, full-function calendar,
scheduler, and notepad utility program. This application runs on
any graphics device (EGA/VGA drivers included). It was copied to
the \LAYAPPS\CAL directory. To start the program, go to this
directory, type "CALENDAR" and press the ENTER key.


DUAL CHESS
This is a specialized telecommunications program that allows
two users to play chess via modem, graphically moving pieces,
"seeing" the moves of his/her opponent, and transmitting
messages as the game progresses.

This application was copied to the \LAYAPPS\CHESS directory. To
start the program, go to this directory, type "DUALCHES" and
press the ENTER key. This application can be used in Hercules, EGA
AT&T 6300, or VGA mode. It requires auto-answer Hayes-compatible
modems.

This program was created by Red Mountain Software, a third-party
Layout software vendor that designs and markets a number of Layout
applications and add-ons.


DOUBLE DOWN VIDEO POKER
Double Down Video Poker is a full color electronic poker game
which requires a VGA screen to use. The program was copied to
the \LAYAPPS\POKER directory. To start the program, go to this
directory, type "DDPOKER" and press the ENTER key.

This shareware program was designed by Sam Hazen of SNRsoftware, a
Layout developer that markets applications built in Layout, as
well as Layout add-ons. If you find this program enjoyable, and
you use it, we suggest you follow the shareware instructions in
the \LAYAPPS\POKER directory to register a full copy of the
product.

This Applications Sampler Disk only contains EGA and VGA screen support.
