WPText will turn the text you input into a WordPerfect graphic file
which you can then import into WordPerfect 5.1 via the Alt-F9 key.
WPText will not work with WordPerfect 5.0.

These small portions of text can be used in headlines, captions and
for drop caps. The text can be rotated by WPText, you can select
from a number of different fonts, and you can make them any size
you want and any color you wish. They will print on any printer
that WordPerfect can print graphics with.

Once you have created the file using WPText go into WordPerfect and
create a graphic box with the Alt-F9 key. You can force the text
to be of a certain width or height. If you select auto both the
text will be the equivalent of a 72 point font (which is equivalent
to 1"). To create drop caps (drop caps are those large decorative
capital letters that start a paragraph) select the height as a
number of u units. For example if you wanted your drop cap to
cover two lines you would enter the height of the box as "2u".

Caution! When "White space optimization" under "Options" is turned
on (the default) do not import these files into DrawPerfect! It
will CRASH. These limitations exist because of the way in which
WPText removes white space around the fonts. In order to use these
files with DrawPerfect turn white space optimization off.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
