Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂHow do tables use "lines" and what hardware supports them?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? X ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂAll printed lines are graphic lines so any printer which
supports graphics will print tables with the lines. You may
still use tables if you have a non graphic printers but the
lines will not print out. On the actual text screen, line
draw characters are used so that any screen will show the
table. Tables take up less bytes but take more time to print
than line draw.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIf a table is printed on a daisy wheel printer what will
happen?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? (
ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂGraphic lines won't print. The columns would still line up
but without the graphic lines.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I print tables with line draw characters rather than
graphic lines?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂNo. If you really want line draw characters then set a "table"
up with line draw.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? h ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIs there a way to change the default to show and print no
lines in tables?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ø ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂNoÆ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIf I don't want the lines to print, how can I shut them off?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? P ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhen printing set Graphic quality to none. You may also
remove all table lines by entering into the Table edit screen,
blocking, and turning all lines to none.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? p ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhen retrieving a large spreadsheet and the warning tells me
that the table exceeds right margins, how will it print if the
margins are not altered?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? È ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIn WP 5.1 you have the ability to retrieve a Lotus or
PlanPerfect spreadsheet without any conversion necessary. It
will be placed in a table. If the retrieved spreadsheet is
wider than the page allows, the message WARNING: TABLE EXTENDS
BEYOND RIGHT MARGIN will appear telling you to change your
paper size, margins, base font, column widths, or eliminate
unnecessary columns to accommodate the spreadsheet. If you do
not, when the table is printed, the last columns will
overprint.Æ(#Æ

ì ÁÃ ÃUsing Attributes In TablesÄ Ä
Ô ? % ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂHow do I change an attribute?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? H& ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYou can change attributes in a column, row, or block. If you
change these attributes through the table edit screen, the
codes will not appear in reveal codes. You can also change
attributes the regular way on the 5.1 edit screen and these
will show in reveal codes.Æ(#ÆÔ h) 0*0*0*°° ÔÂ X ÂCodes placed in the cell from normal edit screen should
override any conflicting formatting that may have been placed
in the table edit screen. Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂAfter setting a table column/cell attribute (ie bold) how do
I shut it off if I change your mind?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ° ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIf the code was placed in the table edit menu then it must be
changed in the table edit menu and toggled off. If the code
was placed in the normal edit screen then the code will be
seen in Reveal Codes and may be deleted.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I change to a specific font within a table? How?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ` ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYes. Ctrl©F8, 4, now select the font. From that point to the
rest of the cell and the cells to the right of that point and
down the font will be changed until another font is selected.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhat is the order of precedence for formatting codes?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? H
ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X Â1. Text screen. 2. Table edit cell. 3. Table edit column.
(Codes entered from the document editing screen will override
codes entered from a Table Edit Screen. Cell codes override
column codes.)Æ(#Æ
Ô ? 0 ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIf a cell is joined, will the attributes be lost?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ø ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYes. The attribute of the farthest left cell will be given to
the new joined cell.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? P ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂHow are the attributes of the column/cell displayed when the
column/cell had its attributes set in the Table Edit Menu?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? à ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂOnly via the position number. If there is a formula, that
will show in the lower left corner of the screen as will align
character (prior to a period) if applicable. There is no
other way.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? È ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I see all the attributes on the screen without viewing it?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYes and no. If your screen shows all the combinations of
attributes distinctly then sure. But the monochrome monitor
has its limits. Right, center, or left justified are not
shown except visually. Bold will be bold, underline, will
usually be underline. The other depends on the monitor. If
the attribute was set in Table edit mode, it can't be seen in
the normal editing screen, give up trying to find it in reveal
codes, you will have to print or view. This could be a
potential problem.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? `" ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I specify shading?Æ(#Æ

ì ÁÃ ÃCell Manipulations In TablesÄ Ä
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIs it possible to change cell/column size after a table is
created?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYes, the column can be changed with the control arrows in the
Table Edit menu, or via the Format, Column, Width---keep in
mind that you will not be allowed to exceed your margins. The
cell can only be changed by what is held in it.Æ(#Æ
ÅÅ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I split one row differently than the rest of the table?
Can one cell be longer than another cell in the same row?Æ(#Æ

Ô ? (
ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhen a cell's size is changed, what happens to the text
inside?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ¸ ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIt wraps. If you calculate a number that will not fit in the
columns width, then it wraps. It may not wrap and rewrite the
screen immediately, if it looks wrong in the text screen, go
in view and back out which forces it to rewrite.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhen I size and add cells/columns where does wp add them?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? h ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIn the Table Edit menu, pressing the Delete key will ask to
delete rows, or columns. If rows, you choose row, 3, it will
delete the row that you cursor is in and two rows down. If
columns, and 3, it will delete the present column and
additional two columns to the right. Pressing the Insert key
will insert a row or column below the current row or to the
right of the current column.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ¨ ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I change cell numbers?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? p ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂUnlike footnotes, endnotes and pages a cell's address cannot
be changed. It could become altered using split, join and
hiding lines to make it appear as a different number.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I lock cells? Why would I? What are the limits?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? X ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYes. The purpose is to keep you from changing material in the
cell accidentally. You can not modify material in a locked
cell without unlocking it. This is most common for a form
fill-in, the creator of the table locks certain cells the
temporary help should not play with. The Limits? A row or
column containing a locked cell can be deleted from the Table
Edit menu (without even a protest by wp). Kind of like
deleting a pass-worded file.Æ(#Æ

Ô ? È ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIs there a way to split an extra large spreadsheet into two
different tables?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? X ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYes, block the information (while in the Table Edit screen)
you would like to move to a different table and choose the
move key and press move. Exit out of the table. Create a new
table, position the cursor in cell A1 and retrieve the portion
of the table that was blocked.Æ(#Æ

the table math formula screen.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? è ÔÃ ÃÅ ÅQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIs recalculation necessary or will WP do it automatically?Æ(#Æ

Math, Formula) delete the formula. This will not change the
numbers already existing even if you recalculate but it will
delete the formula. To remove the numbers that may have been
previously calculated, go back to a normal editing screen and
delete the unwanted numbers.Æ(#Æ

Ô ? ¨ ÔÁàØ ì Áà ÃConverting 4.2 And 5.0 Features Into TablesÄ Ä
Ô ? 8 ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I convert a 4.2/5.0 math document to tables?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYes there is absolutely no problem placing the information in
tables by blocking the information and pressing the tables key
and selecting create from tab. The possible problem is that
the formulas will not come over though the numbers that were
created by a calculation will.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ° ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I convert 5.0 parallel columns to Tables?Æ(#Æ

Ô ? ð# ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWill the program know if I am entering text or numbers?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ¸$ ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIt will know if you enter text or numbers. Currently it will
calculate if a number precedes letters, it will ignore the
letters in the calculation. It is recommended that if phone
numbers or something like it is entered and would not like to
consider the cell as a number then Format, Cell, Type, Text,

ÔÁàä ì ÁÃ ÃUsing Reveal Codes With TablesÄ Ä
Ô ? ¸ ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂHow can I use reveal codes to edit Tables?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂThe code [Cell] will show in reveal codes for each cell of
your table. The [Row] will appear for each row. You cannot
delete a [Cell] or [Row] code (or the table end def code).
This is a safeguard. The only way to remove a [Cell] or [Row]
is to delete or edit the table via the table edit menu. When
a table definition is deleted from reveal codes, the [Cell]
codes are turned to tabs, and [Row] codes into [HRt]'s. If
this is done accidentally, you can block the screen and go
into Tables. This will create your table again but it may
need some editing to get it back to its original form. To
reduce editing you may wish to place a tab setting at the top
of the "former" table then block and go into Tables.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ¨ ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIf I have more than one table per page how can I tell which
table I am in when cross referencing.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? 8 ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂThere doesn't seem to be a really good answer except find the
definition code which will show which table it is.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÁàðì" ÁÃ ÃTable LimitationsÄ Ä
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhat is the minimum a cell can hold? Æ(#Æ
Ô ? è ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂA cell must always have at least one line. You may define a
row of cells to have a minimal area, ie .001 and it will
accept type but will not print. It will only print if the
minimal row height is at least as high as the minimal line
height. ie. You can have a 6pt font which has a line height
of .111 and that would be the minimum height that a row of
cells can be set. In reality the minimum row height + distance
between cell line and text is the actual minimum cell height.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ð# ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIs there a K limit to one cell?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ¸$ ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂNo.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? H& ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhat is the minimum/maximum column width?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ' ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂThe Minimum is one character plus the right and left border
space (set in the Table Edit, Options) and the left border.
ie. .1" + .1" + .1" + .1" =.4" is the minimum using the system
defaults and a Courier 10 pitch.Æ(#ÆÔ h) 0*0*0*°° Ô
X ÂThe Maximum is the distance between left and right margins
less the left border + right border (if only one column in the
Table) and distance between text and border (both left and
right). ie 8.5 wide paper with 1" margins= 6.5 -.1" -.1" -.1"
- .1" = 6.1" of usable cell/column.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? x ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂHow does WP decide how wide to make each cell?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? @ ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWP initially uses all available space between the margins.
Once the table is created wp will keep the cell between the
margins and will not exceed them (exception being large
imported spreadsheets). If the margins increase WP will not
expand the table to fit them unless Options, Position, Full is
chosen in the Table Edit menu.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ¸ ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhat are column and row limits?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X Â32 Columns by 32,765 Rows. The larger the table the slower
the calculations and manipulation.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? Ø ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhat is the default table size? Cell? Row?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWP will check the margins and default the width of the table
to be the width of the margins. Default is 3 columns by 1
row.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? À ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIs there a limit to the number of tables in a document?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂNo.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÁà¤ì# Áà ÃSorting TablesÄ Ä
Ô ? ¨ ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIn Sort, will it always default to table mode when inside of

Incidentally, when in the Sort by Table mode selecting 7 Type
will produce absolutely nothing not even an error message.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? X ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan you View while in the sorting menu in Tables to see which

Ô ? (# ÔÁàxì! ÁÃ ÃTables And GraphicsÄ Ä
Ô ? ¸$ ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I have graphics in a table?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? % ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYes. It is best not to have a page graphic in a table.
Paragraph and character graphics work best. The graphic will
not be able to exceed the limits of the column width but
generally have quite a bit of latitude with length.Æ(#Æ
Ô ( 0*0*0*°° ÔÔ ? Ôà ÃÅ èÅQ:Ä Ä X ÂDoes the cell with a graphic in it re-size automatically?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? È ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂVertically yes. Horizontally the graphic is limited to the
width of the cell less the border space between lines and
text.Æ(#Æ
ÅèÅ
Ô ? è ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂCan I do a table in a graphic box?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ° ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂYes. A table will work fine in a box, be aware that the table
must occupy a minimum of space. If the table size will not
fit into the graphic it could exceed the graphic on the
printed page.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂParallel columns, will they work with tables?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ` ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂTables cannot be placed into columns. Tables can be placed
into graphic boxes which can be placed into columns. With
that in mind, that also should tell you how to make text wrap
around a table.Æ(#Æ

ÔÁàÔ
ì ÁÃ ÃTables And Bitstream FontsÄ Ä
Ô ? Ø ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWill tables work with 3rd party fonts like Bitstream?Æ(#Æ

they are graphics not related to fonts.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? ø ÔÁà´ì! ÁÃ ÃTables And HeadersÄ Ä
Ô ? ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂWhat is a header in a table?Æ(#Æ
Ô ? P ÔÃ ÃA:Ä ÄÂ X ÂA Table Header much like a header in the format page menu, is
something that will print at the top of each page. In tables
the header key will allow you to designate how many rows will
be printed at the top of each page of a multi-paged table.
Ie: The first two rows contains several column heading.
Anywhere on my table in the table edit screen I can specify
header and choose two rows. Wp will automatically attach the
first two rows of the table to each page that table covered.Æ(#Æ
Ô ? X ÔÃ ÃQ:Ä ÄÂ X ÂIf I have a table header defined, can I have normal headers

Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
