The error message "Directory In Use" occurs when WordPerfect cannot create
overflow files within the default directory. When this error message occurs,
the following steps may be used to to resolve the problem:

1.ÂX°°
ÂCheck to see if any or all overflow files with the user's three initials
already reside in the default directory. (.BV1, .BV2, .TV1, .TV2, .SPC,
.CHK files are usually the most common.)ƀ%°Æ

2.ÂX°°
ÂCheck to see if the user has sufficient rights in the sub-directory from
which they are invoking WordPerfect. For Novell, type the word RIGHTS
at a DOS prompt in the specified sub-directory. For any other Network,
it is most common to ask the customer what the directory rights are.
This is because it is rather confusing to find the directory rights and
in most cases, the customer knows.ƀ%°Æ

3.ÂX°°
ÂCheck if there is a volume name entered in a path within:ƀ%°Æ
a.ÂX°°
ÂThe evironment file (WP 5.0 only) ƀ%°Æ
ÂX°°
ÂÂXÂType the file out at a DOS prompt (TYPE WP{WP}.ENV). Check if the
user has placed a volume name in the /ps option. An example is
/PS=SYS:WP50\SETUP.ƀ%Æ

b.ÂX°°
ÂThe paths to where the auxiliary files reside. ƀ%°Æ
ÂX°°
ÂÂXÂThis problem is Novell specific. No other network can use a volume
name command.

4.ÂX°°
ÂWhen a user on a Novell network receives the error message "WordPerfect
Directory In Use," they should first type "RIGHTS" at a prompt in the
WordPerfect directory to determine that they have sufficient rights to
run WP. If they do not, they should arrange to be given the necessary
rights by the network supervisor. ƀ%°Æ

If they do have sufficient rights, they should type "CHKVOL" to determine if
there are enough available directory entries. The only way to make add more
directory entries is to regenerate the server.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
