If you're NOT familiar with the term GREP, perhaps running WEFGREP
with the default options set will clear things up.
Copy all the files contained in WEFGP112.ZIP to the directory
C:\grep.
Ensure that the DOS MORE.COM program is located in your path.
Run WEFGrep without any parameters. Once the menu is displayed,
depress the F9 function key. Depress the N key when prompted with
Should I use the boolean "AND" function ?
and despress the return key when prompted with
Are the above parameters correct ?
WEFGrep will read the DESTSTRM.WAR file and look for the strings
specified in the configuration file WEFGREP.CFG, and extract those
paragraphs that contained those strings. Because you're not using
the logical "AND" function, all the paragraphs will be extracted
and placed in a file called WORK. Next, choose option 2 from the
Option Menu to see what's contained in the WORK file.
Now, choose option 1 from the Option Menu to restart WEFGrep. Depress
F9 function key. This time, when you're prompted for
Should I use the boolean "AND" function ?
depress the return key to accept the default "Yes" answer. At the
next prompt of
Do all of the strings need to be on the same line ?
depress the return key to accept the default "No" answer.
and despress the return key when prompted with
Are the above parameters correct ?
This time, you'll note that only one paragraph contained all four search
strings.
Well, that should give you an idea of what greping is all about. The
documentation file WEFGREP.DOC should be read to utilize the full power
of this program.
