VIET.COM: VIE^'T version 1.6 Vietnamese text editor.
VLASER.EXE: A HP-Laserjet printing module for VIE^'T.
VMORE\.EXE: A (Unix) "more"-like utility\.
LSDESIGN.COM: A laser font editing/designing program.

The above files should be read using VIE^'T. They (as well as this

dot-matrix printer using VIE^'T.
Other files in the package and the programs which use them
are:

The following are brief descriptions of the programs. See
the appropriate DOC files for more detailed descriptions.
VIET.COM:
VIE^'T is a somewhat Wordstar-like text editor for Vietnamese\.
It runs on MS-\DOS machines, and requires CGA (or compatible, such
as EGA, VGA, etc.) graphics. Output is via dot-matrix printers
(see VLASER for laser printing). It uses micro-spacing
bit-mapped technology to produce near-letter-quality output even
on non-NLQ printers.
All VIE^'T commands are summarized on the help screen (Press
F1 inside VIE^'T to read). One major improvement for this version
is the ability for user-\defined keys (ALT F1 to set up).
VLASER.EXE:
VLASER is the laser printing portion of VIET. It allows you
to format the page and select different fonts, pitches, line
spacings, etc. Four laser fonts are supplied: COURIER,
PRESTIGE, PALATINO and CHANCERY\.
VLASER can be used to print output files of VIET or VMORE\.
Usage: vlaser [filename] (the filename is optional; if not
supplied, the previously used filename will be assumed).
VMORE\.EXE:
This is a utility like Unix' "more", but takes pseudo-
Vietnamese as input. This utility allows you to read Vietnamese
messages that have been electronically mailed to you, or posted
on a computer network. It also performs conversions between VIE^'T
files and these other data formats to allow you to electronically
mail or post files written with VIE^'T.
Executing VMORE without any parameter will display a help
message to guide you through it.
AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH VIET, VLASER & VMORE:
Having a file named TEXT.SCV which you have received as
electronic mail (e\.g, from viet-net) or downloaded from a news
group, such as soc.culture\.vietnamese (SCV)
VMORE TEXT.SCV TEXT.VT (read the file, put result in TEXT.VT)
VLASER TEXT.VT (print out a copy of TEXT.VT on the
Laserjet)
VIET TEXT.VT (edit the file for a reply, print it out on a
dot-matrix printer, or compose a new message;
e\.g., REPLY\.VT)
VLASER REPLY\.VT (print a copy of the new message on
the Laserjet)
VMORE -P REPLY\.VT REPLY\.SCV (convert reply to SCV format for
posting, use -PN if you don't want to view
the output)
LSDESIGN.COM, PRDESIGN.COM, SCDESIGN.COM:
These three utilities allow you to modify or create laser,
dot-matrix, and screen fonts, respectively\. Please read the file
DESIGN.DOC for instructions on usage\.
Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
