SHAREWARE SOFTWARE
------------------
Shareware is a method of distributing software at a low
price, which was originated by Bob Wallace.
Shareware is used to give you, the customer, the chance to try
a product before buying. You then review the product to determine
if you want to continue using it. If you decide to use it you
are encouraged to become a REGISTERED user of the product.
If you decide not to register, you may still freely copy and share
the product with friends and associates. In fact, we ask that
you do share with as many computer users as possible.
Shareware is not the easiest way to make a living but for some
software authors it is the only means of making a living. If you
like and use a SHAREWARE program, please remember that it took
many hours to prepare the program, not to mention the enormous
amount of time spent on testing for bugs. Documentation also plays
a major role in the production of a program. These things do not
come as easy as the simple download it takes to aquire the file
from a Bulletin Board System.
One last word before I leave the subject of Shareware....

USER'S MANUAL
USING PrintX
------------
PrintX is designed to be executed either from the command line
or from prompts from within the program. To run PrintX from
the command line, type in PrintX and follow it with the FULL
FILENAME and EXTENSION. You must then enter the destination
of the file such as PRN or another FILENAME and EXTENSION.
PrintX can be used by typing in Printx and following the
PROMPTS. The first question will ask you the name of the
file you would like to process (Source File:). At this point,
enter the FULL FILENAME and the EXTENSION. You may enter a path
to the file if you desire. The second question is the Output
filename. This can be a separate text file or any logical
device, such as PRN, LPT1 or LPT2 etc.
COMMAND LIST
------------
The commands used to format a text file are:
..page - ends a page, sets top of form to next page.
..head - header marker command.
..foot - footer marker command.
..clrf - clear all information stored in footer.
..clrh - clear all information stored in header.
..pgno - starts page numbering with any specified number.
"@@" - Print page number.
PAGE - To use the page command enter "..page" after the last
line of text you want on a given page. Place the command in the
first column of an EMPTY line.
NOTE: EVEN IF YOU DO NOT SPECIFY A PAGE COMMAND, PrintX WILL
ISSUE A PAGE BREAK AFTER EACH FOOTER OR BEFORE EACH
HEADER. IF NEITHER HAVE BEEN SPECIFIED, PrintX WILL
PLACE 6 BLANK LINES BEFORE 54 LINES OF YOUR TEXT AND
6 BLANK LINES AFTER YOUR TEXT.
HEADER - To use the HEAD command, enter
"..head[00][C,R,A][text]" in the first column BEFORE the pages
where you want the header to appear. Breaking down the HEAD
command, [00] is the line at which the header will appear on
the printed page. Enter a number between 1 and 6. [C,R,A] is
the justification of the header line. "C" - center, "R" - right
justify, and "A" - alternate right justify on odd pages.
Finally, the [text]. Enter a row of up to 50 characters to
use as the header line. EXAMPLE: "..head03CPrintX" will print
PrintX, centered on the third line of every page after this
command.

USER'S MANUAL
FOOTER - To use the FOOT command, enter
"..foot[00][C,R,A][text]" in the first column BEFORE the pages
where you want the footer to appear. Breaking down the FOOT
command, [00] is the line at which the footer will appear on
the printed page. Enter a number between 61 and 66. [C,R,A] is
the justification of the footer line. "C" - center, "R" - right
justify, and "A" - alternate right justify on odd pages.
Finally, the [text]. Enter a row of up to 50 characters to
use as the footer line. EXAMPLE: ..foot63CPrintX will print
PrintX, centered on the sixty-third line of every page after
this command.
Clear Footer - "..clrf" or "..CLRF".
Once issuing this command it clears the contents of the entire footer.
This is a "DESTRUCTIVE" command! To start printing footers again
you need to re-use the footer command.
Clear Header - "..CLRH" or "..clrh"
Once issuing this command it clears the contents of the entire header.
This is a "DESTRUCTIVE" command! To start printing headers again
you need to re-use the header command.
Suggested uses:
These two commands are used to selectively clear the contents
of the header and footer contents. This saves you from typing
blank lines first, then typing new header and footer information.
Using these commands will save you time as you learn to use them.
Note:
---- You do not have to clear the header or footer first if you issue
the contents again and simply 'over-write' the first header and
footer contents you issued previously.
PAGE NUMBER - Although not required, you can have each page
numbered. To do this follow the command given in the example
above. e.g. "..pgno01" would start numbering the pages where
the command was entered and they would start with the number 1.
WHEN USING THE ..pgno00 COMMAND, REMEMBER THAT THE PAGE NUMBER
SPECIFIED MUST BE OF TWO DIGITS! e.g. 01
PRINT PAGE NUMBER - To use the PAGE NUMBER command, enter "@@"
anywhere you want the page number to appear. A typical use of
the "@@" is in the HEADER or the FOOTER. Enter "..head03C@@" or
"..head03RPrintX @@". This will print out the page number on
the same line as the header. Use the sequence mentioned before
to achieve the same results in the footer.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
----------------------
When you are creating your documents, please remember that you
must start your lines in column one. Why, you ask? PrintX will
move your text over 10 COLUMNS when producing the FINAL COPY. This
FINAL COPY may be a PRINTED HARD COPY or another file which would
be considered a SOFT COPY. As you can see, you will need to plan
ahead for such things as centering of Page Titles and the such.
The normal Right margin will be 60-65 to produce a centered
document. You can make adjustments, of course, to find out
where you would like the text to be.
The header is SIX (6) lines in length.
The Footer is SIX (6) lines in length.
This leaves you 54 lines in the middle of the document to place
your text. Keep this in mind while you are creating your text.
SHORT TUTORIAL
--------------
Let us take a moment to show you the power of PrintX. Run the
file and enter the commands that follow.
should press the
A> PrintX
(At the A> prompt, start the
program PrintX.)
Source File: SAMPLE.DOC
(At the first prompt, type in the
name of THIS FORMATTED DOC file
then press
Output File: TEST.TXT
(Type in the file name TEST.TXT.
This will produce a formatted,
correctly spaced copy of the
file SAMPLE.DOC.)
OR
Output File: PRN
(This will send a correctly
formatted copy of the file
SAMPLE.DOC to the printer.)
If you have ever typed documentation for a program or presentation,
you will soon see the benefits of PrintX.

SUMMARY
-------
TAKE NOTE!
----------
Since PrintX formats the text file using 6 lines for the header
and 6 lines for the footer, place the embedded commands in your
file without any space between the lines. STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN
WHEN THERE IS A BLANK LINE. Please examine the documentation file
"SAMPLE.DOC" to better understand how to implement PrintX.
USING THE DOT COMMANDS
----------------------
The DOT COMMANDS must be placed in the LEFTMOST COLUMN of your file
or they WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS
-------------------
The future of PrintX is in your hands. We would like to see it
become a SMALL desktop publishing program. We would also like to
add more features such as an editing environment for PrintX. This
would allow you to create and manipulate all your text and then
run the PrintX module on it all from one area.
The fate of PrintX lies with the REGISTERED users of the program.
If it is used and REGISTERED, we will make more enhancements to the
program in the NEAR FUTURE.
Until then, register, enjoy and give us FEEDBACK!
