INTRODUCTION

This is the shareware version of NJStar(tm) version 2.1j. It can only be
distributed free of charge and in verbatim form, no change can be made.
Commercial application is reserved by the author.

Many hours of work have gone into the development of NJSTAR, and I regularly
incorporate suggested changes into the product as I am able to. The only way
I can continue to provide products like NJSTAR and to offer outstanding
technical support, is for you to register your copy of NJSTAR. I like the
shareware concept, and I would like to stay a part of it. But I can do so
only through registrations of NJSTAR. Please don't take this the wrong way -
try out NJSTAR for 30 days or so, under no obligation whatsoever. But if you
found it is useful and continue to use it after that 30-day period, please
send your bank check of US$49 (plus US$10 mail handling for overseas users,
US$5 for Local users) for your registration copy to:

Hongbo Ni []
P.O.Box 866
Kensington NSW 2033 AUSTRALIA.

Phone: +61 - 2 - 697 5527 (BH)

Fee standards are subject to change without notice. See ORDER.FRM for more
information about registration process.

Registered user will receive latest registered copy of NJSTAR on disk.
(without pesky registration remainder screen). The registered copy contains
drivers and font for 24 pin printers, Canon BubbleJet and HP Deskjet printer,
HP laserjet printer and a PostScript printing program, additional utilities,
and additional configuration files not found on the shareware distribution
disk, and will receive free technical support and low cost updates.

above.

INSTALLATION OF NJSTAR

The installation procedure depends on how you received the NJStar's
distribution files. Here are general guidelines for installing NJStar
Shareware Version.

1. Make sure there is enough space at user's harddisk. NJStar shareware
version requires more than 1 MB free disk spaces.

2. Create a NJStar subdirectory at user's harddisk. For instance, to
install NJStar at C:\NJSTAR, use the following DOS command,

C:\> MD NJSTAR

3. Decompressed the distribution package to NJStar subdirectory. FTP or
BBS sites, where most users get their distribution files, usually
compress the files by various compressing utilities. So the files
would have special extension names, such as .ZIP, .ARC, or .ZOO.
Please consult user's local system manager for utilities to decompress
distribution files.

Please watch out at this stage to see if all files are decompressed
correctly. If user didn't download files properly, decompressing
utilities usually would generate error message for them.

4. Make a subdirectory for NJStar's user files. For instance, to put all
NJStar's user file at C:\NJFILES, use the following DOS command,

C:\> MD NJFILES

5. Add NJStar's subdirectory name to user's PATH statement so that NJStar
can be invoked at any DOS prompt. The PATH statement is usually found
at user's AUTOEXEC.BAT file. User may add the following statement to
the end of current AUTOEXEC.BAT,

PATH = C:\NJSTAR;%PATH%

6. Create Dictionary files using START.BAT, which runs following three
command:
JAPKANA
JAPKANJI
EDICT

7. Enter NJStar subdirectory and run NJCONFIG.EXE to modify NJStar if
necessary. The DOS commands are,

C:\> CD \NJSTAR
C:\NJSTAR> NJCONFIG

If user doesn't have an Enhance keyboard, that is, 101 keys or more in
the keyboard, it is necessary to run this program to let NJStar know
that.

8. Run NJStar by entering NJSTAR at NJStar's subdirectory. That is,
enter the following DOS commands,

C:\> CD \NJSTAR
C:\NJSTAR> NJSTAR

If user wants to run NJStar outside NJStar's subdirectory, please
reboot the computer first so that changes made in step 5 and 6 would
take place.

NJStar Registered Version is to be installed by an installation program.
So here are guidelines for installing NJStar Registered Version.

1. Make a back up copy for NJStar distribution disks.

2. Make sure user's harddisk has at least 2 MB free space.

3. Insert NJStar's first distribution disk at drive A or B, then invoke
the installation program according to the following syntax,

INSTALL drive_1 drive_2

The drive_1 is A: or B:, where the installation disk located. The
drive_2 is the hard disk name, C: or D:.

Thus, to install NJStar from drive A: to drive C:, enter the following
DOS commands,

C:\> A:
A:\> INSTALL A: C:

4. The installation program will create a subdirectory, \NJ200, at

drive C: or D: at user's choice, for NJStar. Then, it will install
files from floppy disk to hard disk. It will prompt user for other
disks if necessary.

5. When finishes, the installation program will prompt user to modify
user's PATH statement and add an environment variable, NJZK, if
necessary.

6. Follow Step 5 and after in the guidelines for installing NJStar
Shareware Version listed above.
