The one thing common to all the "exotic" computer approaches --
operations research, artificial intelligence, expert system, neural
networks, and hypertext -- are decision trees.
However, only in hypertext are these trees visible, understandable,
and easily modifiable by lay persons. The benefits of this are:
(1) Hypertext classifications are easy to use
(2) Hypertext users try alternate paths to check answer stability
(3) Hypertext construction requires only a word processor
(4) Hypertext menus easily represent the "rules of experts"
(5) Hypertext systems are much faster to build
(6) Hypertext users manually make choices -- others are automatic
(7) Hypertext delivers knowledge -- others produce answers
(8) Hypertext systems can be much larger than other technologies
