The macrofile is a binary file in a special format used by EagleWord.Macros may be recorded, edited, and stored to disk fromwithin EagleWord. TOGGLE MACRO RECORD Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)Any keystrokes entered after this command is activated arestored within a keyboard macro, which may be edited andlater played back within EagleWord. To stop macro recording,enter this command a second time. A prompt box will ask forwhich of the ten macros should store the newly recorded one,and for a descriptive name for the macro.Each macro can hold up to 255 keystrokes. Macros can playback other macros. Macros are played back by pressing one of the installed keystroke combinations, or by choosing theEagleWord Macro Playback option from the menu system. One of the macros is somewhat special. This macro is calledthe "scrap". Whenever a new macro is recorded, it writesover the scrap macro. The current scrap macro can be playedback once or many times using other macro commands. Information shown includes the complete path nameof the current file; its size in bytes, words, lines, andpages; whether it has been modified since last disk save;the time and date; available RAM and disk space; the currentdirectory; and the DOS and EagleWord version numbers.Some of the statistics that EagleWord presents take a whileto compute. By pressing any key while the Get Info window is being updated, you can "short-circuit" the computation ofsome items. TOGGLE INSERT MODE Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: When insert mode is active, newly typed text is insertedinto the current text line, pushing characters to the rightof the cursor aside to make room. When insert mode is off,newly typed text overwrites existing text. Many commands,such as block copy and insert line, operate in insert modeindependent of the setting of this toggle. TOGGLE AUTOINDENT MODE Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)When autoindent mode is active and the  key ispressed, the new line of text will be indented the samenumber of spaces as the line immediately above it. Thesetting of this toggle also affects the operation of theparagraph reformatting command. If ablock is marked and visible, and the cursor is anywherewithin the marked block, the command will toggle the case ofthe entire block. LOWER CASE Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)The case of the character at the cursor location will be setto lower-case. If a block is marked and visible, and thecursor is anywhere within the marked block, the command willchange the case of the entire block. If a block is marked and visible, and thecursor is somewhere within the marked block, the commandwill change the case of the entire block. SET RIGHT MARGIN Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)A prompt box will ask for a new value for the right margin.Entering an empty prompt string will set the right margin tothe current cursor column. The right margin is used onlywhen Word Wrap mode is active. When that is so, text enteredin a column beyond the right margin will automatically bewrapped to the next line. Paragraph formatting will movewords so that lines are as full as possible within, but notexceeding, the right margin. FORMAT PARAGRAPH Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)Format paragraph is available only when Word Wrap mode isactive. Paragraph reformatting will move words so that linesare as full as possible within, but not exceeding, thecurrent left and right margins. If Justify mode is active,the lines will also be evenly filled with spaces so that therightmost word ends on the right margin.The paragraph reformat is terminated when a blank line, or aline beginning with a format character (@), is reached. Otherwise, left and rightmargin settings are ignored, and text may be entered in anycolumn up to the maximum line length. SET LEFT MARGIN Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)A prompt box will ask for a new value for the left margin.Entering an empty prompt string will set the left margin tothe current cursor column.When Word Wrap mode is active, the left margin controls theleftmost position where text may be entered. The left marginalso controls the operation of the paragraph formattingcommand. The left and right margins can be made visible by togglingthe Tab Line Display.Print formatting commands require that the format character(@) be located in column 1 even if the left margin is set toa number greater than one. To achieve this, enter the formatcommand starting at the left margin, move the cursor tocolumn 1 with the Left of Line command, and delete theintervening spaces via Delete Word. Alternatively, activatethe Margin Release command while the format command isentered. DISPLAY TABS Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)Toggling Display Tabs ON reserves one line of the currentwindow for display of tab settings and margins. The tabs andmargins can be active whether or not the tab line isvisible. INSERT UNDO BUFFER Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)The entire contents of the undo buffer are inserted into thecurrent text stream, prior to the current line. This emptiesthe undo buffer, that is, the operation can be used onlyonce for any set of deletions. TOGGLE JUSTIFY Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)When Justify is active, word wrap and paragraph reformatoperations will cause each line to be filled in with spacessuch that the rightmost non-blank character is exactly onthe right margin. By toggling Justify off, and reformatting lines orparagraphs, the additional blanks will be automaticallyremoved from the text. Note that blanks manually inserted(via the Tab command, etc.) will also be removed, unless theCompress Wrap mode is turned off.EagleWord does not differentiate between "soft" blanks addedduring justification and "hard" blanks manually entered.However, the character  may be used in place of anormal blank when non-changing spaces are desired. TOGGLE FONT DISPLAY Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)When Font Display is enabled, print formatting commands thatcontrol font selections will not be displayed on-screen.Instead the marked text will be displayed in a color orattribute corresponding to the font. This "what you see iswhat you get" mode allows more accurate alignment of tables,and avoids multiple print cycles to correct formattingcommands.The screen colors for each font may be adjusted on the Options Colors menu.When font display is enabled, the control characters thatselect the fonts are not visible. However, the cursor can bepositioned over the control character, and it can be deletedif desired. The EagleWord hardware cursor grows to a largeblock when it is positioned over the control character. Thevalue of the control character will be displayed at theright hand edge of the window status line when the cursor ispositioned over it.EagleWord computes the display of on-screen fonts while itis waiting for you to enter keystrokes. As a result, if youenter new text it may take a short period of time beforecontrol characters disappear and fonts are drawn in their final colors. CENTER LINE Keystroke sequence:  Alternate keystrokes: (None)The current line will be centered between the left and rightmargins. This command is active only when Word Wrap mode ison. SET COLORS Keystroke sequence: (None) Alternate keystrokes: (None)All of the editor colors can be customized to your liking.Independent color settings are available for normal text,block marked text, window status lines, the prompt line atthe top of the screen, text in menus and prompt boxes, menuframes, the highlighted character by which each menu itemmay be selected, the currently selected menu item, the blockcursor (when active), and each of the five selectable fonts. The colors that you select are saved with EagleWord when youexecute the Options Save setup command. Filesformatted with EagleWord's page layout commands and fontcontrols will print with multiple fonts, headers, footers,and page breaks.Do not press  on the first menu selection, Printfile now, until the other items in the box have been set toyour satisfaction. Selecting the first item starts the printjob. After you select the second menu item, Name of file, aprompt box will request entry of the name of the file toprint. When prompted for a file name, you may enter DOSwildcards or the name of another drive or subdirectory. Inthis case, another window will display the names of allmatching files. You can select from this list by using thecursor keypad, or by pressing the first letter of thefilename in which you are interested.If you wish to print a file that is currently loaded inmemory, be sure to save any recent changes to disk beforetrying to print it. If you attempt to print a file that hasunsaved changes, EagleWord will produce an error message. Set Auto formatting OFF if you wish to have EagleWordignore formatting commands (@ commands) in your text. Inthis case, text will print continuously with no form feedsor page breaks. Control codes embedded in the text will bewritten to the output without interpretation.By default, EagleWord prints all pages of the document. Youcan set starting and stopping pages if desired.Select from any of the available printer definition files(default extension .PDF) to find one that is appropriate foryour printer. You can change to another file and useOptions Save setup to regularly use that file.You can also choose between sending the printed output to LPT1, LPT2, or to a file. LPT1 and LPT2 refer to thecomputer port where your printer is attached. If the printeris attached to a serial port, you must use the DOS MODEcommand in order to assign the serial port to one of theprint devices LPT1 or LPT2. Your choice between LPT1 andLPT2 will be saved with EagleWord when you Save Setup.When output is printed to a file, all control codes arewritten out just as when they are printed. In this case, youmust also specify the name of the output file using theprompt window.Set Manual paper feed ON if you wish to have EagleWordprompt you to insert a new sheet of paper after each page.This choice is also stored as part of the printer definition file for your selected printer.Set Use formfeeds ON if your printer accepts ASCIIcharacter #12 to eject each page. Otherwise, EagleWord willfill out the end of each page with blank lines.After making all selections, move the menu bar to the Printfile now item and press . If you decide not toprint, just press . Printing occurs as a backgroundtask. You can continue editing with minimal loss ofperformance while the print job continues.To stop a print job at any time, execute the Print Filecommand sequence. PRINTER DEFINITIONSYou can edit and store printer definitions from withinEagleWord, using the File Print menu.Select a printer definition file (default extension .PDF)using the Which printer menu item. EagleWord will loadthis printer file into memory.Any of the command sequences that control various printerfonts can be edited using the Edit printer codes menuselection. Each font is associated with two strings - one toturn the font ON, and another to turn it OFF. When you choose a sequence to edit, it appears in anotherwindow. It can be edited using the cursor keys, and the or  keys. Most characters you type willbe inserted literally into the string.  willdelete the existing string.  will end the sessionin the string editor. In case you need to enter any of thesespecial keys as part of the control string, press the key to enter Literal mode. EagleWord stores the printer command sequences for allfonts, as well as the default settings for manual paper feed and formfeeds, when you save the setup.EagleWord will prompt for a file name when you decide tostore the current definition. The default extension forprinter definitions is .PDF. documents. Lightning must be installed, or anerror will occur.EagleWord checks the document in the current screen window.By default, checking proceeds from the current cursorposition to the end of the file. If a block is marked andvisible, only that block will be checked. EagleWord contains a small built-in dictionary of the 500most commonly used English words. This dictionary is kept inmemory at all times in order to accelerate the checkingprocess.Once the operation begins, EagleWord keeps you advised ofits progress on the status line. The line and columncounters tell you what part of the document is beingchecked, as does the percentage indicator. These are updatedeach time a new word is checked. When Lightning finds a word that it does not recognize, thescreen will be updated to highlight the word, and a popupmenu will ask you to select an option. Select by moving thebar and pressing  or by pressing the firstcharacter of any of the options: Skip once Ignore the spelling of this word in only this one instance. Ignore for this document Ignore the spelling of this word for the duration of the check.  List Lightning sound-alikes Display a list of sound-alike words from Lightning's dictionary. Select one and press , or press  to return to the previous menu. Edit from the keyboard A prompt box will appear to allow interactive editing of the word. Press  to accept, or  to return to the previous menu. You may use Lightning's interactive modes at this time. EagleWord will recheck the word after you finish editing it.  Mark with "~" Place a tilde in front of the word. After the document has been checked, you can use the Find Pattern command to locate the marked words. This file contains informationregarding the control codes that enable the printer'svarious fonts, as well as some additional information thattells EagleWord about the printer.Existing PDF files can be changed, and new ones created viathe EagleWord Printer definition menu. The printerdefinition most recently selected via the File Print menucan be modified here. Choose Edit string to change thecontrol code for any supported font. Each font is associatedwith two strings - one to turn the font ON, and another to turn it OFF.When you choose a string to edit, it appears in anotherwindow. It can be edited using the cursor keys, and the or  keys. Most characters you type willbe inserted literally into the string.  willdelete the existing string.  will end the sessionin the string editor. In case you need to enter any of thesespecial keys as part of the control string, press the key to enter Literal mode.
