OVERVIEW
--------
ANSR is an ANSI file viewer that can play ANSI music, has wildcard
support, has user-adjustable speed, can do slideshow presentations,
and more, all without the need of an ANSI driver.

DISCLAIMER
----------
ANSR is distributed on an "AS IS" basis without warranty, expressed
or implied. Considerable testing effort has been expended, but the
user is advised to check the program's suitability before relying on
it. The user assumes full risk as to the results of using this
program. In no event shall the author be liable for any incidental or
consequential damages arising from the use, or inability to use this
program.

REGISTRATION
------------
ANSR is freely distributable and fully functional, and may be used for
a 30-day trial period. If you plan to continue using ANSR, you are
obligated to pay the modest registration fee of $10. This one-time fee
allows you unlimited use of this and all future versions of ANSR.

All registration information is contained in the ANSR.REG file. If
that file is missing, register by sending a check or money order for
$10 in U.S. dollars, drawn on a U.S. bank, to:

OPERATION
---------
ANSR is activated from the command line, using the format

ANSR [options] filename [[options] filename]... [/r]

The filename can include a drive and path, and can contain wildcards.
When using wildcards, all files that match the filespec will be
displayed. When not using wildcards, ANSR will automatically append
extensions of .ANS and .MUS if a specified file is not found.

While a screen is being drawn, Ctrl-Break will stop and exit the
program. Between screens, either Ctrl-Break or ESC will exit.

OPTIONS
-------
Options are set in the order that they appear on the command line, so
to have them take effect for a file, they must precede the filename.
Once an option is set, it will retain its value unless it is re-set.

Option Description

/C[n] Cursor type. 0=no cursor, 1=underline, 2=block. Default: 0.

/D[n] Delay in milliseconds between each character displayed.
This option is useful for viewing ANSI animations that go
too fast when TYPEd. Range is 0 to 1000. Default: 2.

/M[n] Play ANSI music if available. 0=no, 1=yes, 2=ignore music
codes. Default: 1.

/P[n] Number of seconds to pause between each ANSI file. A value
of -1 will cause ANSR to wait until a key is pressed. Range
is -1 to 30. Default: -1.

/R Restarts from the beginning of the command line, and resets
the other options to their default values. /R should follow
all other options and filenames on the command line. This
option is useful for slideshow presentations.

/S[n] Clear screen before viewing each ANSI file. 0=no, 1=yes.
Default: 1.

/V[n] Video write method. 0=BIOS calls, 1=direct screen writes.
If you see flickering on your screen while viewing files,
or are having other video difficulties, set this option to
0. Default: 1.

EXAMPLES
--------
ANSR ansi
will display ANSI.ANS with a default 2-millisecond pause between
characters, and also by default will wait for a keypress afterwards.

ANSR *.ans *.mus
will display all files with an .ANS or .MUS extension, waiting for a
keypress between each one.

ANSR /p10 *.ans *.mus
displays the same files, but waits up to 10 seconds for a keypress
between each screen.

ANSR /p10 *.ans *.mus /r
displays the same files in the same manner as above, but when
finished, ANSR goes back to the beginning of the command line and
redisplays the files, and will continue until interrupted.

ANSR /d0 ansi /d5 bbs
sets the delay to 0, shows ANSI.ANS, waits for a keypress, sets the
delay to 5, and then shows BBS.ANS, which contains animation that
may have been missed at a faster rate.

ANSR /p5 /d0 ansi /d5 bbs /r
shows the same two files as above, continuously, waiting up to 5
seconds between screens, with no delay for ANSI.ANS, and a 5 milli-
second delay for BBS.ANS.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
