FROM ACUTE SYSTEMS AT THE ADDRESS IN (1) ABOVE.

USING DUAL FORMAT --------------------------------------------------------------
Install DUALFMT.EXE using Program Manager or another method (see Windows manual
for help). Double click on the Dual Format icon. A dialog box will appear
containing several controls explained below.

There are two radio buttons ("A:" and "B:") which identify the drive containing the disk to be formatted. You only need to worry about this if you have two
3.5 inch high density diskette drives. If you have one 3.5 inch drive, it should
be selected by default.

The checkbox labelled "Verify" controls whether the diskette is to be verified
as it is formatted. This box should always be checked so that bad disks will
be rejected.

The function of the three push buttons labelled "Format", "About" and "Cancel"
are obvious. Before formatting, the user will be warned that any data already
existing on the diskette will be destroyed.

An animated hourglass will display the progress of the operation.

The scrollbar and edit boxes are disabled in the shareware version of Dual
Format. These controls allow changing the Mac and Dos volume sizes and names
in the registered program.

DISKETTES ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dual Format can only format 3.5 inch high density (1.4 Meg) diskettes. These
disks have two square holes in the back corners of the diskette (one is the
write protect switch, the other identifies it as high density). Low density
(720K, 800K, 400K) disks just have one hole (the write protect switch).

Be careful when using disk checking utilities or any program which manipulates
the file structure directly. Dual Format diskettes are structured slightly
different than standard Dos and Mac disks. These programs may interpret these
differences as a problem on the disk. Allowing the program to change the
information in one volume could overwrite information in the other volume.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
