STOPBOOT is a public domain program that intercepts
calls to the Ctrl-Alt-Del key combination and asks for
verification. The calling format is:
[d:]Stopboot
When called, STOPBOOT gives no response. But any
attempt to reboot using Ctrl-Alt-Del gets a
ARE YOU SURE? (Y/N)
response.
If you've ever lost data, or killed your print
spooler, by booting when you shouldn't have, STOPBOOT belongs
in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
STOPBOOT was tested in a pure IBM PC environment,
and it runs fine. A few things should be noted though.
First, do not attempt to reboot in the middle of a disk
operation because data in transit may be lost. Second, if
you reply Y to the ARE YOU SURE prompt, STOPBOOT tells you
to try again, and you must again Ctrl-Alt-Del.
Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
