AutoZipper Release 5.00
Copyright(C) Oakwood Software, Mishawaka Indiana 1989.
Written by Scott Null - All Rights Reserved.
A front-end utility for use with PKZIP (tm) and PKUNZIP (tm).
Now with complete selective extraction of files from Zipfiles!

To Use AutoZipper, copy..

AZPINST.EXE
AZP.EXE
AZP.DOC

into the same directory where PKZIP.EXE and PKUNZIP.EXE resides.
These programs must be in the same directory as PKZIP.EXE and PKUNZIP.EXE
in order for AutoZipper to work correctly.
It is assumed that you already have a copy of PKZIP.EXE and PKUNZIP.EXE.
Now change to the directory that contains these file and type;

AZPINST (hit return)

This will run the AutoZipper Installation program. The installation program
creates a batch file called ZIP.BAT and also instructs you as to the
path requirements for running AutoZipper from a directory other than the one
it is located in. You only need to run the installation program once, before
running AutoZipper for the very first time.

After installation is complete you can run AutoZipper by typing;

ZIP (hit return)

AutoZipper will ask you to select a drive from which to work from. Logical
choices are A, B, C, D, and E drives. You can also change from ZIP to UNZIP
or vice-versa by toggling with the SPACE-BAR.

AutoZipper will then display the tree for the selected drive. You can then
select the subdirectory which contains the files you wish to zip or unzip by
using the cursor control keys. Move the cursor over the desired directory
and type 'G' to go into that directory. AutoZipper currently supports
subdirectory structures three-deep. Once in the directory, move the cursor
over the file(s) you wish to zip or unzip and use the SPACE-BAR to
select/unselect the file(s). You can also type 'S' to select all files, and
'U' to unselect all files.

Option Menus:
-------------
AutoZipper 5.00 now includes UNZIP capabilities with selective extraction
to disk, screen, or printer. It also includes two different option
menus depending on if you wish to perform ZIP or UNZIP functions. When
you run AutoZipper the starting default function is ZIP until you change it.
You can always see the current function by looking at the bottom line on the
screen and noticing whether the flashing word is ZIPPING or UNZIPPING.
To select the UNZIP function, press the function key F9. To select the ZIP
function, press the function key F10. Pressing the appropriate function key
automatically changes the mode in which AutoZipper will operate on selected
files. The function key also displays the corresponding menus described
below...

The ZIP Menu (F10):
-------------------
Hit the F10 function key to bring up the ZIP Menu. You can then select
the following options;

1 - Maximum compression of selected files
2 - Fast compression of selected files
3 - Include a comment in the Zipfile
4 - Deletes the selected files from the Zipfile
5 - Moves the selected files to the Zipfile
(deletes the source files upon completion)
6 - Select a new drive/directory from which to work
7 - Shell to DOS
[return] - Leave Option Menu

The default option when you first start is 1 - Maximum Compression, you may
change the options as you like. If you do not have a hard-drive and are
running AutoZipper from a floppy, be sure that COMMAND.COM is located on the
floppy with AutoZipper PKZIP.EXE and PKUNZIP.EXE if you wish to use the
7 - Shell to DOS Option. When you are finished with the Option Menu hit
return to re-enter the file selection utility. You will
re-enter in the ZIP mode of operation.

The UNZIP Menu (F9):
--------------------
Hit the F9 function key to bring up the UNZIP Menu. You can then select
the following options;

1 - Extract to disk
2 - Overwrite existing files
3 - Extract to printer
4 - Extract to screen
5 - Test the selected Zipfile(s) integrity
6 - Select a new drive/directory from which to work
7 - Shell to DOS
8 - View Zipfile(s)
[return] - Leave Option Menu

The default option when you first start is 1 - Extract to Disk, you may
change the options as you like. The UNZIP function will only operate
on files with the '.ZIP' extension. All other files selected without
the '.ZIP' extension will be ignored. When you are finished with the
Option Menu hit return to re-enter the file selection utility. You
will re-enter in the UNZIP mode of operation.

After you have selected either ZIP or UNZIP and the desired option you
should select the files that you wish to perform the selected operation on.
Type 'B' when done selecting files to begin the selected process.
If you are in ZIP mode when you type 'B' you will be prompted to give a
[pathname]\filename.zip for the target zip file. Type in the target
path and filename and hit return. If you don't type an extension to the
filename, the .ZIP extension will automatically be used.

-------------------------------------------------
ZIP mode Example;
c:\modem\files\mystuff.zip (hit return)

In this example, AutoZipper would then use PKZIP to create a
Zipfile called MYSTUFF.ZIP in the C:\MODEM\FILES subdirectory.
-------------------------------------------------

If you are in UNZIP mode and have selected the Extraction to disk option or
Overwrite existing files, then when you type 'B' you will be prompted
to give a target [pathname] for the files you are about to UNZIP.

-------------------------------------------------
UNZIP mode Example;
c:\modem\files (hit return)

In this example, AutoZipper would put the files that you wish to extract
from the selected '.ZIP' file(s) into C:\MODEM\FILES subdirectory.
-------------------------------------------------

Type in the target pathname and hit return. If you have selected an option
other than Extraction to disk or Overwrite existing files, you will skip
the above step. You will then see the file(s) that are in the selected
Zipfile(s). You can now select the file(s) that you wish to extract
from the Zipfile(s). Use the SPACE-BAR, 'S', or 'U' to select the files
you wish to extract. Type 'B' to begin the extraction process when you
have finished selecting files.

You can always use the ESC key to exit AutoZipper when you are finished
running the program.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
