GETTING STARTED :

ARCTOOL is a shell to the many of the most popular archive (compression)
programs available. ARCTOOL will support ARC Version 5 or 6 by SEA Assoc.
PKXARC.EXE ,PKXARC.COM and the new PKUNZIP.EXE written by Phil Katz, as
well as LBR and ZOO files. Since ARCTOOL is a shell, you obviously must
have a version of the de-arcing software that you want to use somewhere on
the same drive as ARCTOOL.

ARCTOOL is executed for the DOS command line by entering AT. First, the
program will search your entire disk for files ending in the extension
'ARC','PAK','PKA','LBR','ZOO' and 'ZIP'.


The first time into the program, you will need to tell ARCTOOL what program
and format you want to use for each of the file extensions supported. The
screen looks like this :

Enter the name of the program to use for each extension (i.e. PKXARC.EXE),
and if it is on the disk, ARCTOOL will find it. Of course, you can enter
the full path along with the filename (i.e. C:\UTILITY\PKXARC.EXE).


Next you will be asked to select a decompression format. The different
programs available have different command line switches that must be used.
The selection window looks like this :

Select the appropiate format, and press 'RETURN'. You will then be asked if
you want to OVERWRITE existing files on extraction. Answer 'Y' or 'N'.
Proceed with this process until you have entered a program name for each
file extension. If you do not want to use a particular format, leave the
slot blank. ARCTOOL will fill in NOT USED in the slot for you.

Simply use the cursor keys to select one of the archives. The entry
'NONAME.ARC' is provided to allow selection of an archive on another disk,
or you can enter 'A:' and all of the archives on the 'A' drive will be
presented.


THE COMMAND WINDOW :

After selecting an archive, its contents will be read, and all of its files
will be presented. The command window at the bottom of the screen displays
all of the features of ARCTOOL.

Files can be Tagged (T) or UnTagged (U). Files can be Extracted (E) to any
Outpath (L). Files can also be Viewed (V) on the CRT or Printed (P) on the
printer.

The 'A' key tags all of the files in the archive, and the 'Y' key untags
all tagged files. The 'D' key allows files within the archive to be
deleted, so be careful, you'll only get one chance. The 'Q' key quits
ARCTOOL.

Pressing the slash (/) key opens up the following option window.

Using the cursor keys, you can

..... Select ARCTOOL Colors
..... Turn the BEEPs On/Off
..... Shell down to DOS
..... Execute another program or DOS command
..... Change your Setup information
..... Sort the files display
..... Quit the options menu

The best way to find out how these options work is to try them. Just one
point. Selections for colors, Setup, and Sort are saved to disk as
defaults. This means that the next time you use ARCTOOL, the last choices
selected will be the defaults.

Well, thats pretty much it. I think that you will find ARCTOOL easy to use,
FAST, and once you get used to using it, indespensible !!
