===================================
Before proceeding, please make sure that you have read the ALL
Chargecard Manual, the General Network Installation file and the
read.me file on disk.
CBIS recommend that you first run NWSTART / ARGS
This should provide you with information and parameters for CBIS
The programs that can be loaded high are as follows :
NC .EXE 8K
NX .EXE 19K to 28K in size
SHARE .EXE 8K
NR .EXE 42K
NS .EXE 66K
UBRIDGE .EXE 9K
BRIDGE .EXE 19K to 32K in size
Please remember that every system configuration is different and
the example give is just a guide and should not be followed
blindly !!!
Example:
CONFIG.SYS:
DEVICE=ALLEMM4.SYS RAM FR=NONE X=aaaa-bbbb i=cccc-dddd
N.B. - If you are going to use EMS you should not have
FR=NONE as obviously you won't have an EMS page
frame. FR=NONE basically frees up another 64K of
memory that would normally be taken up by the EMS
pageframe.
- RAM is the parameter that causes the backfilling of
the free space between 640k and 1024k with memory
in 4k pages. If you are running VGA you could put
RAM=b000-b7ff to steal a bit more memory off your
video buffer.
- X=aaaa-bbbb where aaaa is the start address of the
ROM & RAM address on your network card and bbbb is
the end address. You should try and get ROM & RAM
to follow one another and then exclude that block
- i=cccc-dddd this only applies to Clone machines.
If you put i=f000-f7ff you may be able to steal
some more memory from the BIOS in the F segment.
AUTOEXEC.BAT:
Files=20
Buffers=30
DEVICE=
REM If there is a Network Card driver
REM it should go here
ALLOAD NC
ALLOAD NX
ALLOAD SHARE
ALLOAD NR
ALLOAD NS
ALLOAD UBRIDGE
ALLOAD BRIDGE
You should use a combination of EXAMEM (to examine where software
is located in your memory) and ALLOAD
spaces in high memory to load your network programs. To precisely
position your software, you should use the ALLOAD /
The Network cards ROM & RAM areas should be excluded using the
X= (exclude) parameter following ALLEMM4.SYS in the CONFIG.SYS
file. Ideally the ROM & RAM areas should be set as low as
possible or as high as possible in high memory to give the
largest area of contiguous DOS space.
Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
