(1) EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
--------------
IBM PC and most compatibles. DOS 3.0 or higher. 512K RAM required.
A color monitor and a hard drive is recommended. Loading of data files is
slowed considerably if run from a floppy drive. The main program will run
just fine from a floppy if you don't mind the slow data load.

(2) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
------------------------
MSCODE.exe v3.0 is a complete menu driven "MORSE CODE MADE EASY" learning
tool that allows the user to set the pace. The 3 major modes are LESSONS,
PRACTICE and WORD LIST. The user can change the tone, number of words per
minute, how many characters are sent at a time and whether or not the
characters are displayed as they are sent. The program tracks the user's
progress and displays a score based on level of difficulty at the end of
each lesson. See (5) PROGRAM MENU OPTIONS.

(3) HISTORY

I am one of those people that can't remember the previous characters sent.
Way back in October of 1984, I developed a program for my own personal use
that ran on the TI 99/4A home computer. The program allowed me to select
and hear the characters sent as words. It became easy to learn once I quit
listening for individual dits and da's.

In 1986 I rewrote "MORSE CODE MADE EASY" to run on a TI PC that I bought.
I still hadn't published it even then because there weren't that many TI
PC's around. I bought a new 486/66 IBM compatable in Feburary 1993, started
Brad's SoftWare and have been publishing some of the software that I have
written over the years.

One software package that I am proud of is "TEXLOTTO", a complete Texas
Lottery Data Analizer.

(4) INSTALLATION:
-----------------
BBS DOWNLOADERS:
Simply decompress the files into the directory of your choice. You can
then change to that directory to run the program.

FROM FLOPPY:
Insert the disk into a floppy drive, type that drive letter followed by
a colon ":" and press enter.
Type INSTALL and press enter.
You will be asked which drive to install MsCode to. When you select a
drive, it will then create a MsCode directory on that drive and copy all
files to it and run the program. If you do not have a hard drive, it will
run the program from the floppy if you choose.

If you run MSCODE from a floppy, loading of data files will be slowed
considerbly.

Once MSCODE has been installed or you have copied all the files to a
different directory, you will need to run MSCODE from that directory.
The program can not use the data files if you attempt to run MSCODE
from a different drive or directory unless you put the \MSCODE directory
in your autoexec.bat's path. The easy thing to do is set up a icon in
WINDOWS, but if you want to run MSCODE from the MS-DOS command line, you
can create a bat file to move to the correct drive and directory and
then run MSCODE.

FROM WINDOWS:
From WINDOWS, select File,Run and type D:\INSTALL ( replace the D: with
what ever floppy drive your disk is in).
After installation, you can select File,New,Program in Windows to set up
an icon. For program name type MSCODE. For command type MSCODE. For
working directory, type D:\MSCODE (replace with your drive and directory
if different).

The software is completely menu driven, so all you have to do is follow
menu instructions.

(5) PROGRAM MENU OPTIONS:
-------------------------
OPTION (1) LESSONS:
There are 27 lessons arranged from least to most difficult so that
the user can progress at a pace that they select. The user can change
the tone, number of words per minute, how many characters are sent at
a time and whether or not the characters are displayed as they are sent.
At the end of each lesson, the user is given a score based on the level
of difficulty for that lesson.

OPTION (2) PRACTICE:
The user can select "HEAR WHAT YOU TYPE" which displays and sends what
ever the user types.
Or the user can select "TYPE WHAT YOU HEAR" which is the same as LESSONS
except that the user is asked to enter a list of characters that they
need practice on. The program randomly sounds out the dits and dahs for
the characters in the practice list. At the end, the user is given a
score based on speed, number of characters sent at a time and the level
of difficulty the same way that the lessons are scored.

OPTION (3) WORD TEST:
The user selects one of the 27 word lists that start with short easy
words to copy and graduate to longer harder words to copy. The user is
then asked to type the words as the dits and dahs for the characters in
the randomly selected words are sounded out. At the end, the user is
given a score based on speed, number of characters sent at a time and
the level of difficulty the same way that the lessons are scored.

OPTION (4) RUN LOGO SCREEN
Displays Logo screen that shows telegraph key sounding out the dits and
dahs as "MORSE CODE MADE EASY" is put on the screen in large letters.

OPTION (5) PROGRAM DOCUMENTATION AND REGISTRATION ORDER FORM
This option allows user to select a viewer screen that scrolls up and
down that shows this documentation file or the registration order form.
The user can print out a copy of the file being viewed by pressing the
letter "P".
