This patch updates Manifest 3.0, dated 9-17-94, 10-12-94, or 11-22-94 to
Manifest 3.1, dated 1-15-95. The date on your MFT.EXE file (typically found
in the \QEMM directory) should be one of the dates in 1994 listed above. If
the date on your MFT.EXE file is not one of the ones listed above, you should
not attempt to apply this patch.

This patch should be applied this way:

1) Copy the files which accompany this README: RUNME.BAT, PATCH.EX_,
MFT.RTP, MFT31.PAT, and README.MFT into the same directory as Manifest
(MFT.EXE).

2) Change to Manifest's directory and type:

RUNME

followed by the Enter key.

After the patch has been successfully applied, you may delete the
following files (if any still exist) from the Manifest directory:

RUNME.BAT, PATCH.EXE, MFT.RTP, and MFPAT1.EXE

WHAT'S NEW IN MANIFEST 3.1

1. The PCMCIA 2.0 drivers that come with some IBM ThinkPad models could
come into conflict with Manifest, causing a Divide Overflow.
Manifest has been modified to work around this conflict.

2. A General Protection Fault could occur under Windows on LANtastic 5.0
networks when LANtastic's DOS drivers were loaded but the Windows
drivers were not. This has been fixed.

3. A larger vendor identification field has been added to the PCMCIA
screen, allowing for a more elegant display of this information.
Anomalies in the display of the VESA version number, IRQ information
displayed on the Adapters / PCMCIA screen, and in the Adapters /
Disks screen, have all been fixed. A minor display bug, which
corrupted the Adapters / Video screen after Manifest had been popped
up from its TSR state, has also been addressed.

4. Manifest now displays the current mode (Standard or Enhanced) of
Microsoft Windows on the Windows / Overview screen, when Manifest is
running in a Windows DOS window.

5. CPU speed detection has been added to Manifest since its initial
release, and modifications have been made to allow for the proper
display of this information in Windows Enhanced Mode. An Exception
#13 which could occur during Manifest's CPU speed detection has also
been fixed.

NOTE FOR USERS OF SUPERSTOR DISK COMPRESSION

Late testing has revealed that SuperStor responds "Yes" when a
program asks "Is MS-DOS's DoubleSpace running on this system?" This
will cause Manifest to display the Hint to use QEMM's Stealth D*Space
feature. This hint is inappropriate for SuperStor (which is commonly
found on IBM PC-DOS 6 systems), and should not be implemented on
SuperStor systems. Quarterdeck's developers are looking into the
problem.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
