GAME HINTS

1. If you find a door that will not open, then look for a switch on that
level. The switch will change to open when you get close to it. But
before you leave the room it is always a good idea to turn around
and take a final look to see if it stayed open. Sometimes it will switch
back closed, they are very old switches and are flaky.

2. If you find a door that needs a key try going back a level to look for the
key. The idiot guards leave the keys out in the open and you probably
walked right past it.

3. On the first level look for a prisoner, walk up slowly to him so you can
release him, he has information that you will need to get out of the
prison.

4. On some levels look for rotating red energy plasma balls, these will not
hurt you, but will give you temporary invincibility to any enemy fire.

5. On water levels swim about and look for land, it's out there somewhere??

6. First aid kits are in all levels, but they are not always so easy to find.
Save the first aid when you find it, you will need them.

7. If you are getting killed really fast, try saving the game more often. You
can load the game back to where you were last.

8. That's all the free clues that I'm going to give you, the rest you'll just
have to figure out on your own.

INSTALLATION HELP:

Memory requirements:

Gore Galore is a graphics intensive game program that requires 590K
of free conventional memory and 2.5 Megabytes of expanded or extended
memory. You will need a minimum of 4 Megabytes of ram installed on
your motherboard. Dos 3.3 or higher, (6.0 or higher recommended), a
hard drive, and a VGA board are also required. If you do not have
enough memory or your system is not configured optimally the game will
not start. You will have to follow the following procedures or your DOS
manual.

TROUBLESHOOTING

For DOS 3.3 to 5.0 users:

If you do not have enough memory to run Gore Galore, consult your DOS
manual for instructions on how to free up more memory. If you are
using expanded memory, consult your expanded memory manual to configure
your system for the amount of memory required.

For DOS 6.0 and higher users:

To check the available memory, at the DOS prompt type:
MEM
Your computer will display a total listing of all the memory available
on your mother board. In the listing you will see a group of three lines
as in this example:
Largest executable program size: 609K (623616 bytes)
Largest free upper memory block: 36K (36848 bytes)
MS-DOS is resident in high memory area.
Look at the line which says Largest executable program size. If this
amount is less than 590 K the program my not want to run. If you know
how to edit your config.sys and autoexec.bat files remove any TSR's
(Terminate and stay resident programs, like DOSSHELL) or device drivers
like (ANSI.SYS) to free up memory so that you have the minimum amount of
memory required. Dos 6.0 + users may get more memory available by
running the DOS utility program MEMMAKER.

Installing the game:

Before you can use Gore Galore you must check for a CONFIG.SYS file
in the root directory of your hard drive. This file must contain a
line that reads "FILES=40" . To check this, at the DOS prompt type
the following:
TYPE C:\CONFIG.SYS
If this number is not 40 or higher then you can change this number by
typing the following:
EDIT CONFIG.SYS
If the number is less than 40, move your cursor down to it ans change
it to:
FILES=40
Save your changes by chosing FILE-SAVE, and then to exit after saving
choose FILE-EXIT. You will now need to reboot your computer by
pressing the Ctrl, Alt, and Del keys simultaneously.

In order to play Gore Galore, you must first copy the zip files
#1GORE-A.zip and #1GORE-B.zip to a directory called GORE. To make
the GORE directory type:

mkdir GORE

IMPORTANT: Then type:

install

The files and directories will restore themselves automatically.

Then to play the game type:
GORE

The game will now start with its opening screens and then its menu
screen.

CREATING A BOOT DISK:
If you are still having trouble you may want to make a Boot Disk.
For DOS 5.0 and higher users. Insert a blank high density disk into
your "A" drive and type:
FORMAT A:/S
After formatting the disk, make the "A" drive your current drive, at
the prompt type:
A:
Once you are at the "A:\>" prompt, type the following llines exactly
as they are here.
COPY CON CONFIG.SYS
The cursor will move to the next line, but you will not get a prompt
this is normal. Then continue typing the following lines:

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 2448
FILES=40
BUFFERS=10
DOS=HIGH

Add one of these lines only if you have DOS 6.0 or higher and have
compressed your hard drive with MS-DOS. If you are using another
software companies compression software refer to their manual for the
lines you will need to add in this file.
FOR DOS 6.0 TO 6.20 USERS, type:

DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\DBLSPACE.SYS/MOVE

FOR DOS 6.22 USERS, type:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\DRVSPACE.SYS/MOVE

Next press the F6 key and then press
You will get a message that reads "One file(s) copied". You are now
done restart the computer, and leave the disk in the drive. The
computer will ask you for a date and time and then put you at the
"A:\>" prompt.
