2COL51
Minor modifications for compatibility with 2MENU, the new 2COL interface for
MS-Windows. See PRODUCTS.DOC.

2COL50

Added a -Y3 option to ignore custom default settings and, instead, use the
standard defaults. This is intended for use with the 2COL menu/editing
interface for MS Windows but may also be useful with the WP and WFW macros.
This command is only relevant for registered users. For more information about
the new Menu interface see PRODUCTS.DOC.

Added option "-@" to print pages in reverse. This eliminates paper shuffling
when printing on a deskjet, inkjet or a dot matrix with a cut sheet feeder. You
can choose to print all or only the even or odd pages in reverse order.

Modified even/odd printing to allow printing either the even pages first or the
odd first. The -E option will now ask you if you want to print odd pages next.

Added option -&R to allow paragraph reformatting. This will allow the entire
width of a document to be expanded or contracted. It is useful with 17cpi
printers which can only print 68 character-wide columns. It is also useful when
printing a narrow formatted document to better utilize the full column width.
This option is for registered users but unregistered users can test it with the
-K option.

Automargin has been modified to assume a document width equal to the reformat
setting specified rather than the actual document width. Automargin will
default to the wordwrap setting instead of the actual document width if the
wordwrap setting is less than the actual document width.

The escape character and the character following it are now deleted in wordwrap
mode. In standard mode the escape is converted to ASCII 254.

Now treats a single Carriage Return as a CR/LF.

Improved printing of Wordstar documents.

2COL49
Worked around compiler bug which caused -N option to not print page numbers.

Added macro for BOXER text editor

Increased default page fill (smaller bottom margin) for dot matrix printers

2COL48
Page length adjustment has been added to the -D (page delimit) option.

Printer initialization string has been modified to accommodate IBM type
printers, such as the Proprinter II, Tandy, etc. These printers will only
operate at 17 char/inch and must be used with the -W68 option.

2COL47
Fix DOS 6 and QEMM compatibility problems.

Added option (-J-2) to eliminate output of printer control characters. This
allows output to be used for non-standard printers and sideways printing
programs. It also permits four column printouts to be created.

2COL46
Support for printing Wordstar files added.
Page length adjustment added (-!xx) for A4, legal, etc.

2COL45
Rewritten for new compiler. Bug reports appreciated 🙂

Wordwrap/filter (-&) feature added to print some wordprocessor files (such as
.WRI, WS, WP Generic).

New WP and WFW macros are available for registered users to print with 2COL
without leaving WP.

Automargin modified to automatically switch on wordwrap when lines are longer
than column width unless -&- is included on the command line.

The -V option now allows a percentage to be specified which determines whether
partial last pages will be filled or eliminated.

2COL43
When using the -V option, 2COL will now let you modify the line spacing to
either fill or eliminate partial pages at the end.

2COL41
Added option (-V) to provide a page count before printing.
Fixed hang problem when trying to skip (-S) more pages than actually exist.

2COL40:
Deskjet support added:
2COL has been tested with the Deskjet 500 printer and appears OK. If you
experience problems with your model, please let me know.

Fix problem with left margin (-M) option.

Restore standard DOS printer timeout value.

2COL35

Fix problem with pathnames exceeding 30 characters.

Added option to print current date at page bottom.

Add printer initialization on second pass of odd/even printing.

Fixed problem which ocurred when using the fixpage option when printing
odd/even and using the second pass option.

Added the ability to temporarily turn off options which were turned on with the
customizing feature.

2COL34

Option (-Y) to customize default settings. Eliminates the need to enter
command line options every time you run the program. Eliminates the need for
batch files.

Option (-?) causes 2COL to ask for filenames to print. Useful when 2COL is run
from a menu or an icon. Filenames can still be entered on the command line as
well.

Changed the standard default setting (-F) for the top margin from 4 lines to 0.
This is a result of feedback on how most people are setting up their printers.

Modified the (-O) option, which prints odd pages only, to ask whether the user
wants to print even pages next. This allows for printing both sides without
rerunning the program.

A "press any key to continue" message now appears whenever 2COL displays a
message at exit. This makes it possible to read error messages when run from an
icon or a menu program. Under these conditions the message would disappear
before it could be read.

The DOS printer timeout interval is now decreased while 2COL is running. Some
people have commented that their system appears to hang sometimes while running
2COL. This is due to the long timeout delay DOS uses for the printer before
printing an error message. If a shorter timeout causes any problems, I would
appreciate hearing from you. It is good practice to make sure your printer is
on-line before running 2COL.

Added a 2COL icon and a PIF file for Windows.

2COL32
Documentation improvements

2COL30
Added a DEMO2COL.BAT to illustrate 2COL features

Added a demo option (-K) which activates registered features for a one page
printout.

Fixed a bug which occurred when wrapping long lines with a blank in the 81st
position.

2COL29
People were using the left margin option without reading the instructions first
and were having problems. Additional warnings in LARGE PRINT were added to the
documentation.

2COL28
New Automargin feature scans each file before printing and determines optimum
margin and column width settings. Very useful when you need to create a left
margin for hole punching and binding.

Option added to print an exact number of pages/column, retaining all page
breaks and blank lines.

Escape characters(27) are now filtered out and replaced with ASCII(254).

2COL will now run slightly faster because trailing blanks have been eliminated
from the end of each line.

Fixed bug that caused page header not to print immediately following form feed.

Line spacing control has been changed from n/72 inch to n/216 inch (n/180 for
24-pin). As a result there will be less variation in white space at the bottom
of the page and lines will always be spread out as much as possible. Let me
know if the change causes any problems with your printer.

2COL27
A left margin option has been added. Read the instructions carefully before
using it.

2COL26
Registered users can now direct output to a file instead of the
printer. The file can then be used for printing in background while
running other programs. This option can also be used to redirect output
to LPT2, COM1, COM2, etc.

Also, registration requirements are now more flexible for 2col. Please read the
"Registration" section of the manual.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
