** (written 10/14/85) **
This is the procedure to unprotect the software package
called LIGHTYEAR , Vers 1.00

If you have a hard disk or want to create a backup copy that is not
tied to the original LIGHTYEAR system disk, this will remove the copy
protection completly.

This procedure is meant to be used by legitimate owners of LIGHTYEAR only,
as you are entitled to make a back up for archive purposes only.

Format a blank disk using DOS 2 or 2.1 (Do not use the /s option.)

Label it the same as the original LIGHTYEAR system disk.

Copy the files from the original LIGHTYEAR system to the formatted
blank disk using COPY *.* .

Place DOS system disk containing DEBUG in drive A:

Place the new copy of LIGHTYEAR in drive B:

(you type lowercase, computer responds with CAPS)

=> ren b ly.exe ly.xxx

=> debug ly
-e 5a57
XXXX.5A57 74.eb

-e 5a65
XXXX.5A65 55.cd

(If you don't see same codes, type q and enter - you have a different version!)

-w

-q

Now all the copy protection has been removed, and you may copy the
files as required.

Disk still looks at drive A for help files. For now, type
ASSIGN A=C to solve. If anyone can patch this drive
designation, please do.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
