Unprotect Sargon 4
------------------

This little program is used to unprotect Sargon 4. It
patches two bytes to make it skip over the opening question
and answer screen. It must be run in the same directory that
SARGON4.EXE resides in. It was designed to work with version
1.01.

I'm sick and tired of annoying copy protection schemes that
require you to engage in computerized Easter egg hunts
through software manuals. I bought my copy legitmately and
was greeted with this computerized version of Trivial
Pursuits when I tried to play a game of chess. Nothing is
mentioned about this on the box. Of course, if I were to
store the manual in the box on my shelf, I would have to go
through an exercise about as pleasant as re-folding roadmaps
every time I wanted to play the game.

By the way, there is NO LICENSE packaged with Sargon 4, so if
you have a question as to whether you are allowed to
distribute copies of it, you'll have to contact your lawyer
or Spinnaker Software.

I then spent some time tracing through the program with Turbo
Debug/386 until I found the call to the routine that asks the
questions. I then patched it to just skip over it.
Realizing that not everyone is real comfortable using
debuggers, I whipped up this QuickBASIC program to do the
job. It verifies that the bytes it needs to patch are where
they are supposed to be and then patches the program
automatically. To run it, just copy it into your Sargon 4
directory and type SARG4UNP. That's all there is to it.
