Unprotect for Complex Hazardous Air Release Model (CHARM) v. 5.0
================================================================

CHARM uses a hardware dongle (a device that attaches to either the keyboard,
serial or parallel port, depending on your version). If you have problems
with it, this file might help you.

First, make backups of the files CHARM.EXE and CHARM2.EXE. DO NOT try this
on your originals; if it does not work, they may be trashed!!!

Next, type in the following lines, ending each with a carriage return:

ren charm.exe *.xxx
debug charm.xxx
r

DEBUG will answer with some register info and a line that looks like this:

XXXX:0100 4DDEC BP

Take the number XXXX and add 1000 to it to get YYYY; e.g., if XXXX was 13FD,
YYYY would be 23FD.

Now type in these lines, ending each with a return:

e YYYY:2F09 90 90
e YYYY:2F10 90 90
w
q
ren charm.xxx charm.exe

Now, for CHARM2.EXE. Type in these lines, ending each with a return:

ren charm2.exe *.xxx
debug charm2.xxx
r

DEBUG will again answer with some register info and a line that looks like this:

MMMM:0100 4DDEC BP

This time, take the number MMMM and add 3000 to it to get NNNN; e.g., if MMMM
was 13FD, NNNN would be 43FD.

Now type in these lines, ending each with a return:

e NNNN:0BAB 90 90
e NNNN:0BB2 90 90
w
q
ren charm2.xxx charm2.exe

That's it. CHARM should now run without the dongle. If it doesn't, you may
have a different version or a different type of dongle. If it does, well,
glad to be of service.
