T E C H N I C A L N O T E S
Product: WinFax PRO 4.0 for Networks
Document No.: 6086
Document Date: December 8, 1994
===========================================================================
Subject: Error Message: "IPX not Present"

Situation:
==========
After typing LOADFAX at a DOS prompt to load the WinFax PRO for Networks
TSR's, the following error message appears once the MTDOS.EXE file is
loaded:

IPX not present

Solution 1:
===========
The Network Drivers must be loaded and you should be connected to the
Network, prior to running LOADFAX.BAT. The PC must be running Novell
Netware 3.1x or greater, and the IPX.COM or LSL, LAN Card Driver should be
loaded prior to running LOADFAX.BAT.

Solution 2:
===========
If this PC is running only Windows for Workgroups 3.11 as the only Network
Operating System, WinFax PRO for Networks should be configured for Windows
for Workgroups (NetBIOS).

1. Select the Configuration icon from the WinFax Program Group.

2. From the Network Type, select Windows For Workgroups (NetBIOS).

If you have selected an incorrect Network Type Configuration, the
following warning appears:

WARNING! You have selected a network type that is different from
the one detected by the Configuration program. Are you sure you
have selected the correct network type?

3. Select Yes to continue, or No to exit the Setup warning.

4. Save the configuration changes.

5. Exit Windows.

6. Run LOADFAX.BAT from the WinFax directory.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
