T E C H N I C A L N O T E S
Product: WinFax PRO 4.0 for Networks
Document No.: 6078
Document Date: December 1, 1994

Subject: "Stop, Could Not Open FAXGATE.DL_ on Network Drive"

Situation:
==========
After running SETUP /A from the DOS prompt to install WinFax PRO 4.0 for
Networks the following message appears at the second install diskette:

Stop, Could Not Open FAXGATE.DL_ on Network Drive

Solution:
=========
There are two ways to correct this situation. Do one of the following:

1. Cancel the install process. Go to the Network directory where WinFax
is being installed and check the File Rights assigned to the files in
this directory. They will be flagged as READ ONLY. Have the LAN
Administrator change these Rights to READ/WRITE. Start the install
process again.

2. When the message appears, stop all activity on this machine. On
another workstation, login as the Supervisor (or equivalent) and mark
all of the files in the WinFax directory as READ/WRITE. Continue the
installation process on the first machine.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
