Subject: Determining Compatibility of Fax/Modems with WinFax

Situation:
==========
You are not certain if your fax/modem is compatible with WinFax PRO or if it
is capable of utilizing the extended communications features available with
WinFax PRO 4.0, such as Fax-a-File and Remote Fax Retrieval.

Solution:
=========
Your fax/modem should work with WinFax if it is Class 1, Class 2, CAS, Sendfax
or Worldport. However, the extended communications features of WinFax PRO 4.0
all require a Class 1 fax/modem (see chart on page 2).

There are a number of ways to determine the type and class of your modem and
its degree of compatibility with WinFax.

1. Read the manual that came with your fax/modem. Information on its type and
class is usually found in the technical specifications section.

2. Contact the manufacturer of your fax/modem or the vendor where you
purchased it.

3. Call the Delrina Fax InfoLine at (416) 443-1614 and request the
"Delrina Tested and Approved Fax/Modems" list, Document #2014
(North American callers only). This document lists modems tested and
approved by Delrina to work with WinFax PRO 3.0.

4. If you already own WinFax PRO 2.0 or 3.0, run WFXTEST.EXE. This utility
reports the COM ports and fax/modem available for use with WinFax. WFXTEST
will also report the class of your fax/modem in the line "MODEM= ". For
WinFax PRO 2.0, WFXTEST.EXE is found on the WinFax diskette. For WinFax
PRO 3.0, it is found in the directory in which you have installed WinFax.

5. If you already own WinFax PRO 4.0, run the Delrina TEST utility. This
utility produces a detailed report on your modem, system and system
settings. The Test Summary will also report the class of your fax/modem.
DELTEST.EXE is found on Disk 1 or in the directory in which you have
installed WinFax.

6. To get information about your fax/modem using modem commands, run the
Windows Terminal program, usually found in the Windows Accessories group.

a) Double click the Terminal icon. Choose Communications from the Settings
menu. The Communications dialog appears. In the Connector section, choose
the COM port your fax/modem is installed on and then click OK.

b) Type AT+FCLASS=? and press ENTER. The response indicates compatibility
with WinFax as follows:

(1) Worldport/Sendfax fax/modems may recognize this command as ATA
(auto-answer) and try to pick up the line, responding with OK
and/or NO CARRIER.
(2) Newer U.S. Robotics Worldport fax/modems are Class 1 compatible.
Older Worldport fax/modems by Touchbase that respond to ATi4 with
OK or NO CARRIER are Sendfax compatible.

c) If you are still unsure whether your fax/modem is CAS, Sendfax or
WorldPort, use the ATi3 and ATi4 commands to get additional information.


Fax/Modem Capabilities
=========================
The following chart lists types of fax/modems you can use with WinFax PRO 4.0
and the features available with each type.

Note: Users of WinFax PRO 2.0, WinFax PRO 3.0 and WinFax LITE can only send or
receive Group 3 faxes. The other advanced features listed on this chart
are available to WinFax PRO 4.0 only.

(1) Both sender and recipient must be using WinFax PRO 4.0 or later.
(2) Both sender and recipient must be using fax/modem and software that
support Intel SatisFAXtion file transfer.
(3) Uses the fax/modem's data capabilities. Will not work with a fax/modem
that has no data capabilities.
(4) Data capability of SatisFAXtion fax/modem must be enabled.
