STACKER NOTE STACKER NOTE
MICROSOFT WORKS 3.0 AND THE STACKER INTERCEPTOR
(Applies to Stacker 3.1 for Windows & DOS)
STAC FAX 31514 (09/20/93)
_________________________________________________________________

BACKGROUND

The Stacker interceptor redirects DOS compression-related
commands to their Stacker equivalents. It is not effective with
Microsoft Works 3.0.

SOLUTION

Disable the Stacker interceptor with the /I- switch.

Modify your STACKER.INI file

1. Insert Stacker Disk 1 into drive A or B.
2. Change to the floppy disk drive by typing A: (or B:) and
pressing .
3. From the DOS prompt, type STACKER and press .
4. Note the drive letter of the uncompressed drive which is
exchanged with C (your boot drive). The drive letter is
displayed in the far right column.
5. From the DOS prompt, type

\TOOLS\STACINI drive:

where drive: is the letter of the uncompressed drive.
6. Add the switch

/I-

7. Press Ctrl+Z to save the file.
8. Restart your computer.

Use the Stacker commands when needed. For example, use SDEFRAG
rather than DEFRAG to optimize a Stacker drive.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
