Hypertext and curious children were made for each other. When students
are exploring a hypertext system they're swimming freestyle in a sea of
liquid information. At some points they may choose to skim along the
surface of the material, at other points dive deep and distant,
breathing in knowledge as they move. All the time they are following
trains of thought and making lateral leaps of imagination. And they
learn. Not only about pieces of information, but about how those
pieces fit together. They absorb context as well as content. Education
really does become an adventure of discovery - along the mainstreets
and backalleys of knowledge. As the students swim they can leave
electronic "bookmarks" in the material and later
print out hardcopy that charts the path of their journeys.

But hypertext systems are dynamic too. Not only can students explore
the links and connections in a hypertext knowledgebase themselves, they
can also alter those links . Using MetaQuiz, a product of
METAPHOR - The Hypermedia Group, students can take a multiple
choice quiz about information in a hypertext knowledgebase. They can
take that quiz while they're in the knowledgebase and MetaQuiz will
alter hypertext links to provide students with a crosslinked reading
list based on the questions they got wrong on the quiz. With MetaQuiz,
hypertext becomes a self-contained self-learning centre for students.

Hypertext systems can be developed on any subject and MetaQuiz tests
