AMI TECH TIP
TECH TIP NO. 25.002
DATE: May 9, 1991
BOARD TYPE: Enterprise I, Series-25
BOARD REVISION: B
BOARD FREQUENCY: 25MHz or 33MHz
RELEASED BY: Engineering Dept.
PROBLEM: The Floppy Disk Controller on the Enterprise I motherboard
is not compatible with a streaming tape drive. (This
problem will also affect the Enterprise II, Series-16
motherboard. See Tech Tip No. 16.002).
REASON: The Intel 82077-1 Floppy Disk Controller used on the
motherboard does not support streaming tape drives.
SOLUTION: Intel now has a version of the Floppy Disk Controller
that is compatible with streaming tape drives. The Intel
part Number is 82077AA-1. All boards should be shipped with
the new 82077AA-1 Floppy Disk Controller in the future. If
a customer has a board with the 82077-1 Floppy Disk
Controller and needs to use a streaming tape drive, the
Floppy Disk Controller should be swapped for the new one.
It is a 68-pin PLCC package at U65. It is in a socket but a
special tool is needed to remove it from the socket.
Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!
This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.
But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
