AMI TECH TIP

TECH TIP NO. 15.002

DATE: July 8, 1991
BOARD TYPE: Series 15, SCSI Host Adapter
BOARD REVISION: D and D1
BOARD FREQUENCY: N/A
ORIGINATOR: Sam Williams, AMI Tech Support
RELEASED BY: Documentation Control

With the current drivers available for the Fast Disk SCSI Host Adapter,
you are limited to 16MB of motherboard memory. This is true for all
operating systems except for SCO UNIX and SCO XENIX. The reason is that
the Adaptec 154X drivers use 24-bit addresses. If you try to address
memory above 16MB, it will loop around and write over low memory. The
drivers built into SCO UNIX and XENIX are designed to handle thissituation.
As soon as we have 32-bit drivers available you will be able to use all
motherboard memory. We will let you know when they are ready.

If you have any problems or questions please call Tech Support.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
