FILES

This program is distributed as ZBASE31.ZIP and contains the following files:

ZIPBASE.exe .... the program
ZIPBASE.doc .... this document
ZIPBASE.ico .... an icon for windows users
ZIPBASE.pif .... a program information file for windows users


PURPOSE

The purpose of this program is to catalog, in a database, .ZIP files stored
on diskette, and be able to quickly locate a file by Filename, Disk Number
or Type Program.


REQUIREMENTS

IBM Compatible Computer / DOS 3.0 or Greater / 512 Kbyte Memory / Hard Drive
Dot Matrix Printer required for printouts


INSTALLATION

* Copy all files into an empty subdirectory
* If your are upgrading the shareware version of .ZipBase and
overwrite your existing ZIPBASE.exe, delete the file ZIPBASE.cfg

* To run .ZipBase, enter ... ZIPBASE <

* The shareware release is limited to cataloging 25 diskettes

* This version is not compatible with .ZipBase 1.5, a conversion program
is available for registered user

Log ................ used to log a drive for updating of the database
Print .............. pops-up the PRINT REPORT window, to select report type
Space .............. pops-up the DISK SPACE window, to see available disk space
Color .............. pops-up the SCREEN COLOR window, to select screen colors
cOnfigure .......... pops-up the CONFIGURATION window, to select options
Reindex ............ reindexes the databases
Quit ............... quits the program

Volume ............. volume label of disk, displayed if Auto Disk ID enabled
Disk # ............. the diskette number
Size ............... the size of the disk
Used ............... the amount of space used on the disk

No.Files ........... the number of .Zipfiles in the directory

Zip Size ........... the size of the .Zipfile

Zip Size ........... the compressed size of the file .Zipped
Reg Size ........... the uncompressed size of the file .Zipped
Mod Date ........... the date the file was last modified
Mod Time ........... the time of day the file was last modified
DISK COMMANDS
Update ............. prompts for disk number and then updates the databases
with all .Zipfiles from disk
Verify ............. prompts for disk number and compares .Zipfiles from
disk with those in the database
Rename ............. used to rename a .Zipfile
Copy ............... used to copy a .Zipfile from one disk to another
Delete ............. used to delete a .Zipfile from a disk
Space .............. pops-up the DISK SPACE window, to see available disk space
Log ................ used to log another disk
Quit ............... quits back to ZIPS COMMANDS
< read ........... reads and displays the contents of the .Zipfile,
and moves the cursor bar to the FILE WINDOW


CONSIDERATIONS

1. Only .zip files are displayed when you Log a drive

2. The program will only Update and Verify from a floppy drive

3. The program will only examine the root directory of a floppy drive

4. If Auto Disk ID is enabled, a disk number will have to be entered
the first time a disk is presented. A volume label will be written
to each disk, formatted as ZIP-001 thru ZIP-999.

5. To add files to the database, Log a drive and do an Update

6. To delete a file from the database, Log the drive, Delete the file,
and do an Update

7. 'k' represents SIZE/1024 ie. 2048 to 3071 bytes = 2k, 3072 bytes = 3k


Version 3.X

The following changes have been incorporated:

* a configuration window for set-up options:
> Auto Disk ID, uses volume label to identify diskette
> turn the attention tone on/off
> file display on/off, to increase speed when scrolling thru database
> selection of left margin for printer
* disk Space pop-up window, to see available disk space
* drives detected increased from A thru F to A thru I
* file size is displayed when in the .ZIPFILE DIRECTORY WINDOW
* disk space checked before copying to ensure enough space is available
* status messages added and updated

* Full Mouse Support for all functions
* Users ideas and suggestions ?

program to convert .ZipBase 1.5 data to .ZipBase 3.X.
