PERSONALIZING THIS DISK

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

One of the principal advantages electronic publishing offers
you is flexibility. Flexibility to change any BOOK-ON-DISK in
CDA's collection to reflect your own experiences, preferences or
observations.

Perhaps you buy a case of wine listed on this disk. WBOOK lets
you update (edit) the quantity field, bin location, vendor, date
of purchase -- in fact all of the pertinent information about the
wine and its tasting characteristics -- quickly, easily and
without marring the appearance of your original BOOK-ON-DISK.

Some suggested uses include --

* Keep track of what wine you served to whom. Put the
last name and date in # 13 Occasion.

* Keep track of what you paid, and what the wines in
your cellar are worth.

* Track the change in taste as a wine matures.

* Note matching recipes and their source in # 14 Food.

There is really no limit to the ways you can make this disk
particularly suited to you. Items # 13 & 14 are especially suited
for this purpose. They are "string search" items by design. In
other words, any word, letter or number that you enter in either
13 or 14 can later be used as a tag to recall the wine by typing
in the identical "string" later.

As you use this BOOK-ON-DISK, you'll become familiar with the
principles and procedures used in our advanced cellar management
tool, MICRO WINE COMPANION. WBOOK offers a subset of features
found in Micro Wine Companion. All of the indexing, searching
and printing are the same. The Wine Companion, however, makes it
easy to add your own wines, to create your own disks, and to
chart the value and distribution of the wines in your cellar.
Plus, the Wine Companion gives you the ability to merge, move and
reorganize your wine listings -- and those supplied by us -- in
hundreds of ways. It opens up a whole new world of sharing your
views with thousands of tasters from Les Amis du Vin, the world's
largest society of wine lovers like you.

To encourage your use of our BOOKS-ON-DISK we have made every
part of the program and review disk easy to copy. PC-DOS has
both a full disk copy and a file copy program included. Either
will simply back up our disks at any time.

We urge you to make a backup copy of your disk before editing,
both to insure against misshaps and to preserve the original work
of our authors. And we sincerely ask that you keep these copies
for your own use. We work hard to price our products fairly and
within the reach of anyone who wants them. Passing copies along
to friends is more than a copyright violation -- it is a
violation of the trust that allows us to produce new products for
your enjoyment.

EDITING

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Select SEARCH/EDIT/DELETE from the Main Menu. Select the wine
to edit. (See chapter 2 if necessary.) Display the screen
containing the information to edit.

Press "E" to edit. Enter the line number associated with the
item and press . Enter the new information. Press
again. Repeat for each line you want to change.

When done with any screen, press twice. The menu at
the bottom of the screen will direct you to proceed for other
screens in the same wine, and prompt you to move to other
wines if you choose.

Remember as you edit the index screen that each item has a
special purpose to help you locate wines in meal planning. By
placing the the name of a friend who favors a particular wine in
Occasion, for example, you can later plan the perfect dinner
party for that person, simply by searching for the name.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
