The following is a list of improvements, corrections and/or enhancements made to
Label Magic:

[VERSION 3.00]

o ALL NEW LOOK - Text and EGA/VGA graphic screens have been enhanced to reflect
a more up-to-date 3-D look.

o IMPROVED EDITING - It is no longer necessary to retype and entire address
line when you only want to change a single character. The address field now
allows complete freedom of cursor movement -- including INSERT. Nice idea,
Len.

o SINGLE-KEY RESPONSES - You no longer have to type "Y" and then ENTER when
you are asked questions like "Do you want addresses printed?" Just hit
the "Y" or "N" keys and that's it.

o TWO ACROSS LABELS FOR PAGE PRINTERS - It's finally here, 2-across labels for
laser/deskjet printers! If the printer you select supports 2-across labels,
you will be asked whether to print 1 or 2 across just prior to printing,
automatically.

o COLOR/MONOCHROME OVERRIDE PARAMETER - No matter how hard we try to determine
whether the computer is color or monochrome, there are always some that don't
obey the rules. For this reason, we have added the "-C" and "-M" parameters.
These allow you to force Label Magic to use either color (-c) or mono-
chrome (-m) memory for text screens.

SYNTAX: "C:\LM>lm -m" or "C:\LM>lm -c"

[VERSION 2.19]

o Enhanced VGA colors (in text screens) using "ColorBOX ," another great
NEOCOM product.

o Corrected problem with AT&T 6300, and possibly other monochrome systems. The
problem involved a screen saving routine which did not properly determine
system configuration.

[VERSION 2.18]

o TRUE LQ-2500 (Panasonic KX-P1124 24 pin) DRIVERS. We finally got our hands
on the KX-P1124 printer and wrote a driver specifically for it. The drivers
should work with virtually any LQ-2500 printer. Hence, there are also
LQ-2500 printer drivers listed, too.

NOTE: 24 pin printers don't have vertical line spacing that is exactly
a multiple of that of 9 pin printers so it was necessary to
either stretch the icons "TALL" or shrink them down a little "SHORT."
That's why there are "TALL" and "SHORT" drivers for LQ compatibles.

[VERSION 2.16/2.17]

o PRINTER DRIVER FOR PANASONICS. A new printer driver for certain Panasonic
printers which are not completely EPSON compatible has been added. The
symptom was that labels printed properly, but were improperly spaced.

[VERSION 2.15]

o MORE PRINTERS. A new printer driver for the ALPS 200/300 color printer has
been included in version 2.15. This driver adds color to icons and text and
should work with any EPSON JX compatible printer.

[VERSION 2.14]

o INVISIBLE SCREEN FIX. Some users experienced intermittent screen updates due
to a problem in the algorithm which determines whether a COLOR or MONO
system is being used.

o MENU COLORS. Menu options have all been changed to bright colors so
monochrome users will should have less dificulty.

[VERSION 2.13]

o THE "NEW" PRINT SHOP COMPATIBILITY - Icon importing from The "NEW" Print
Shop graphic/icon files is now possible. Refer to the documentation for
details.

o IMPROVED LABEL LOADING - Now when you try to load a label from within the
CREATE/EDIT LABELS window that doesn't exist, you are presented with a
scrolling-bar menu that allows you to select another label from those that
do exist. Older versions simply displayed a message telling that the label
did not exist.

o SHIPPING LABELS - This version of Label Magic has "hard-coded" shipping label
support. Shipping labels where always possible in earlier versions through
the use of LISTS; however, now it's as easy as printing a label.

o DESQview COMPATIBILTY - Some earlier versions would crash under DESQview or
DESQview/386 because of dual-direct screen writing. Smarter routines
should correct this problem.

o MORE PRINTERS - In addition to the large printer selections available on
earlier versions, version 2.12 includes drivers for the following
printers, too:

Okidata Microline 320/321
Tandy DMP106 (Tandy mode)

o DOS 4.00 FIX - All versions prior to this one showed "ECHO OFF" when a DOS
shell was envoked under DOS 4.xx. Now, however, the shell is as "smooth" as
it was for DOS 3.3x.

o CURSOR FIX - Early versions had a problem with the cursor in the ICON EDITOR
causing it to becomed "locked" whenever it was positioned (using arrow keys)
into the same square occupied by the mouse cursor.

[VERSION 2.11]

o HERC SUPPORT - Label Magic now supports the Hercules monographics
standard (and compatibles).

o FASTER SCREEN UPDATES - Screen updates within the ICON EDITOR are now an
average of 50% faster, due to intellegent updating techniques.

o EASIER CONFIGURING - This version changes the way VIDEO/PRINTER selections
are made. Rather than repeatedly pressing "P" or "G," now you press "P" or
"G" only once and then select the printer or video configuration from a
scrolling-bar menu.

[VERSION 2.00]

o SORTED FILE LIST - Files listed in the scrolling window of the LABEL
MAINTENENCE screen are now sorted. This makes finding labels, icons, etc.
much easier.

o IMPROVED ICON LOADING - The "LOAD ICON" feature of the icon editor has been
drastically improved. Now, rather than entering the name of an icon, you
select the icon from a scrolling menu. The icons are listed alphabeticaly.
Now you don't have to try to remember the names of all your icons.

o ICON IMPORTING - Users of "PRINTMASTER" and "THE PRINT SHOP" can now import
graphics from those programs directly into Label Magic. A complete online
facility has been added to the icon editor for this purpose. The factility
is menu driven and very user-friendly.

[VERSION 1.10]

o CGA SUPPORT - The Color Graphics Adaptor (CGA) is now fully supported by Label
Magic, including the icon editor.

o SAFER ICON SAVES - In earlier versions if you saved an icon under a name
identical to one that already existed the original was automatically
overwritten by the new one. But, in this new release you are prompted as to
whether or not the older icon should be replaced.

o FASTER ICON UNPACKING - The icon "unpacking" subroutine has been converted to
assembler for better speed. The new routine operates about eight times faster
than the original. This makes browsing through icons much faster. Also, the
routines used for displaying icons have been optimized. In general, any
Label Magic feature that reads icons from disk works more efficiently.

o IMPROVED WINDOWS - Text windowing routines have been completely replaced in
an effort to keep RAM requirements low and to improve shadowing reliability.
Some earlier versions had problems with window shadowing.

o TEXT MODE RESTORATION - Version 1.10 returns the computer to its original
text mode setting upon exiting the program. This includes the EGA/VGA 43/50
line modes. For instance, if you are in the VGA 50 line mode and enter Label
Magic then it will automatically switch you to the 25 line mode and then back
to 50 line when you're finished.

o DOS SHELL (DOS 4.00) - The DOS shell option of LABEL MAINTENENCE has been
improved so that the "ECHO OFF" is no longer visible under DOS versions above
3.3.

  1. Very nice! Thank you for this wonderful archive. I wonder why I found it only now. Long live the BBS file archives!

  2. This is so awesome! 😀 I’d be cool if you could download an entire archive of this at once, though.

  3. But one thing that puzzles me is the “mtswslnkmcjklsdlsbdmMICROSOFT” string. There is an article about it here. It is definitely worth a read: http://www.os2museum.com/wp/mtswslnk/
